Okay, let me try it this way.

Why do feel better going into debt to fund massive armed forces, but are much less willing to fund programs at home to provide help to people in need?

The answer should be quite obvious to everyone. Without the USA spending massively on our military to remain the last super power on earth, all the liberal programs will mean nothing because China, Russia or some other country will attack us and bring us down to our knees. Moreover, we can't rely on Canada or one of the other liberal countries to come to our rescue because you don't have the capability.

So, it isn't neccessarily the debt that bothers you. You just somehow believe social programs and massively spending on military are mutually exclusive.

As I said, America can't do both. We can become Europe but we can't be Europe while playing the role of a super power.

Now if some other country would like to step up and guarantee our safety like we've done for those countries for the last 4 decades, I'll be happy to give away free healthcare and college. What country wants to step up? Germany? Canada? Britain?

There wasn't a wheel in the history of the world, until there was. There wasn't a printing press in the history of the world, until there was.
The big problem is, if you have a big military you feel the need to use it even it it isn't neccessary. And that's the trap you fall into.

Whatever the case may be, Canada hasn't demonstrated that it can properly defend itself and have single payer healthcare. Perhaps Canada should get its own house in order before you come trying to solve our problems.
