Most children in British Columbia can say goodbye to those icky swabs and uncomfortable Covid-19 tests as the Canadian province launches a new gargle method for students ages 4 to 19.

"It is one of the first of its kind around the world," said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, at a press conference Thursday.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control says the new test is just as accurate as tests using a nasal swab and is much easier to administer for children.

The announcement comes at a time when testing is in high demand: Canada has seen a doubling of new daily cases in the last month. And while experts are still looking into the role children play in Covid-19 transmission, a recent report suggests they can -- and do -- spread the virus, even when they have mild or no symptoms.

B.C. is prioritizing children for the new test but hopes to expand to adults in the coming weeks.

While the sample will still have to be taken to a lab for processing the test does not have to be administered by a healthcare professional.

Have you noticed a few months back it was covid tragedies that were reported, now in England at the moment its cases because the tragedies have reached a low figure. As of lately we have developed testing for covid is it any surprise that cases will be on the incline, a bad flu year can kill 600,000 worldwide covid has not reached 1/6 of that if the statistics as indicated in my previous post are to be believed

BinaxNow, while very promising, does not appear to be the same test. Neither the testing method nor the speed of results are the same.

Many independent pharmaceutical companies around the world including Canada are fully engaged to find a COVID-19 vaccine maybe in 2020 or 2021.

What is approved in one country is not necessarily approved in another.

Nobody wants to rush a vaccine to market without proper testing to avoid a recurrence of the Thalidomide disaster of the 1960s.

Canada is a tiny country in terms of population - 37 million. That's less than the population of California - 39 millions.

Canada doesn't have a lot of money compared to the USA. They can't spend the money on research like the USA.

Being #1 has its advantages when it comes to finding solutions.

With that said, I hope Canada does find the vaccine. I'll welcome you to the party.

Yep #1 200,000 dead Americans. 6.7 million infected still #1. Not something to be #1 in.

Updated CDC guidance acknowledges coronavirus can spread through the air

(CNN)The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated guidance on its website to say coronavirus can commonly spread "through respiratory droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols," which are produced even when a person breathes.

"Airborne viruses, including COVID-19, are among the most contagious and easily spread," the site now says.

Previously, the CDC page said that Covid-19 was thought to spread mainly between people in close contact -- about 6 feet -- and "through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.
