Gov. Roy Cooper said Tuesday that officials across North Carolina need to make a concerted push to get more people vaccinated against coronavirus, with vaccine supply outstripping demand in some areas.
Cooper's statement comes as North Carolina makes vaccinations available to anyone 16 or older.
More than 5.2 million vaccinations have been administered statewide since mid-December, and more than a quarter of adults are now fully vaccinated, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. Nearly two-thirds of people age 65 or older are fully vaccinated, DHHS data shows.
North Carolina's vaccine allotment is expected to jump next week, as the state receives 149,800 doses of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, up from 58,800 last week. Although fewer doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are being sent to the state, North Carolina's overall allotment next week will be 10 percent greater than this week.
"We're going to have plenty of supply to get every person vaccinated who wants a vaccine," Cooper said during an afternoon news conference. "Pretty soon, we're going to be pushing [and] encouraging people to get it because ... we need to push up the demand until we get as many people vaccinated as possible."
"The quicker we vaccinate everyone, the safer we all are as a state," DHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen agreed.Comment

Of course Fauxci said that.. he's in fear for his job right now with the 'Fire Fauxci bill in the Senate right now, it's getting support from Repubs and Dems alike.
The country is sick and tired of the fear the government has been shoving down our throats.

No! The COVID-19 variant is beginning to spread like wildfire in Michigan like it has been spreading in Toronto. Michigan is right next to Ontario where the whole province is under some form of lockdown or restrictions with infections and deaths rising again everyday.
I understand that Americans are tired of this, it has been 13 months but the virus does not care, it just finds new victims in its 3rd wave.
It is outstanding the the US is vaccinating up to 4M people per day (best in the world thanks to President Biden) but there are many more people not vaccinated.
These new victims are much younger and healthier than the victims of COVID-19 from a few months ago. The B111 variant is both more contagious and more deadly.
It was a very bad idea to let approx 43,000 baseball fans gather to see the Texas Rangers this week. It was irresponsible of the local gov't to allow this to happen, mostly for the sake of money.

Biden wouldn't have the doses to pass out if it wasn't due to Trump getting that ball rolling .. remember Sniffer & the Ho got their shots thanks to Trump, and that happened before 1/20/21.

The virus was linked to high school wrestling tournaments in Florida last December where 38 people tested positive, according to a CDC report published in January.In Minnesota, the B.1.1.7 variant of SARS-CoV-2 spread through Carver County with at least 68 cases linked to youth sport activities including hockey, wrestling and basketball, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
... of all of the sports how can you be so dumb and irresponsible as to hold a wrestling tournament.
The children might come home feeling Ok but they infect all of the family members.
"We're finding out that it's the team sports where kids are getting together, obviously many without masks, that are driving it, rather than in the classroom spread," Fauci told ABC's George Stephanopoulos Tuesday on "Good Morning America." "When you go back and take a look and try and track where these clusters of cases are coming from in the school, it's just that."Comment
