NEW YORK - Workers at Target stores and distribution centers in places like New York, where competition for finding and hiring staff is the fiercest, could see starting wages as high as $24 an hour this year.

The Minneapolis-based discount retailer said Monday that it will adopt minimum wages that range from $15 to $24 an hour, with the highest pay going to hires in the most competitive markets. It currently pays a universal starting wage of $15 an hour.

... wow, $24.00 per hour! I know it is very expensive to live in New York City. I wonder if burger flippers or dishwashers get paid that much? Obviously, increased input costs have to be passed onto the customer.

Yes, that added cost of labor will be passed to the customer. Same thing happens when you tax the rich. Better tell the rest of the liberals.

Back in 2015 there was a owner of a credit card processing company who decided to raise every one's annual salary to $70,000.00. It ultimately did not work out that well for him.

Disney will stop releasing films in Russia

Disney, Hollywood’s largest and most influential movie studio, is pausing the release of its theatrical films in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine last week.

“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming ‘Turning Red’ from Pixar,” a Disney spokesperson said in statement on Monday night. “We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation.”

The company added that Disney is working with its non-governmental-organization partners to “to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees” displaced by the military assault. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been condemned by many nations around the world and sparked a series of crippling economic sanctions targeting the Russian economy.

Disney (DIS) had multiple films set for release in Russia in the coming months. That includes Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” on May 5 and Pixar’s “Lightyear” on June 16.

Although Russia is not a major movie market like China and the United States, the move to pull films from the country, at least for the time being, is notable.

The company’s decision could also prompt other movie studios to follow Disney’s lead and pull their own films from the country.

The Disney news comes just hours after Netflix (NFLX), the other big name in the entertainment world, said it is refusing to air Russian state TV channels in the country on its service in the country.

.. I suspect that a lot of brands from a lot of different industries will suspend shipments to Russia. For example, Toshiba Tec exports 100% of its products into Russia via Germany. I am not saying Toshiba Tec has taken any position on this yet but it is likely hard to import product with Russia cut off from the SWIFT banking system for payment.

... petty US politics about lost causes championed by the ex President do not seem very important right now in terms of the war in Ukraine.

Democracy is under attack by authoritarian figures who try and hold onto the past.
