Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
I have no problem with saving the environment as long as we do it sensibly, but rushing into a fully electric world is not the answer ( I don't know what the answer is either). How will trains, planes, and ships operate, are we to head back to steam and wind? What about semis, are we going to have semis pulled over every couple hundred miles recharging, boy those truckers will be loving there logs and paychecks then, not to mention we cant keep shelves stocked as it is. Fun scenario, the shipping cluster fuck finally gets figured out, workers are back on the lines making America great again, but products are now piling up in warehouses because the trucks can no longer keep up with demand. How much will a flight cost in this new future, or a cruise? Soon only the elite will be able to live life to its fullest, the rest of us will be left trying to figure out how to feed our families.“First comes smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire."Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
If you're waiting for longer range, faster charging and lower sticker prices before buying an EV, you might already be missing the boat: An electric car's total cost of ownership is challenging that of combustion engine cars and may soon make an EV the only logical car to buy.
TCO isn't a concept unique to EVs: It applies to anything you buy that has long-term durability and costs along the way.Comment

The driving wheels are connected to electric motors. This provides greater control of power and speed. The motors are powered by huge lead/acid batteries which are kept charged by diesel powered generators. When a train is coming down a grade the motors can also act as generators helping reduce speed while charging the batteries. Many are also capable of being powered by overhead power leads similar to the the street cars seen in many cities and by electric third rails as with many subways. For travel between major cities overhead power and third both have major drawbacks. Third rails obviously can be an electrocution hazard. Overhead lines should they comedown on surrounding vegetation have the potential for causing wild fires. If the vegetation can be properly kept clear then they do work fine passenger trains as they are in use in many parts of the world as can be seen on the Smithsonian Channel series Mighty Trains.
Planes, good luck
Ships. Nuclear. The world's first nuclear-powered commercial ship was the NS Savannah was launched in the summer of 1959. I remember reading about it in the newspapers when growing up, but where are they now?

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
Missing the boat, ha ha ha , not likely when there is no fuel to power it. Sorry being a smart ass. You bring up another question. All the mechanics out there who have dedicated years and tons of money to knowledge and tools..what do we say to them? Get in the welfare line boys or learn a new trade? Again great intentions, but it seems no one is thinking this thing through to its final stupidity.Comment

... how is this different from comparing a copier technician who was good at fixing electro-mechanical issues but is hopeless at connectivity?
Same story, upgrade your skills or look for work elsewhere.
If the copier industry could handle the transition, there is 1,000x more Federal and State $ available to train truck drivers.Comment

... you missed the point entirely.
... many, many, many truck routes are between two fixed points a couple of hundred km apart. Many, many truck routes are intercity where the truck is back at the Depot every night. Both are well within the range of truck batteries.
In both cases, there is plenty of time to recharge the truck batteries overnight. Much like they do now with long haul truck batteries.
For long haul drivers, diesel is here to stay for a long time even at record high diesel prices due to a global refinery shortage.
... there is a big shortage of truck drivers. With a one month course, you could get a job there tomorrow at over $75k per year.Comment

The majority of copier techs don't know the first thing about connectivity, thats why they have an IT dept. You are talking hardware and software, Apples and oranges. Wow, this is your argument? Get the fuck out of here.“First comes smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire."Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
No, I am waiting for when they come out with a battery that does not have the potential to spontaneously combust and is not made from a material that has to go to a hazardous waste disposal site after it has to be replaced. Also for when producing the electricity needed to charge it does not produce more pollution than an similar sized CNG or LPG powered vehicle does, hell or even a properly tuned gasoline powered vehicle.
Apparently your not too worried about the 20 gallons of flammable gasoline
Time for YOU to buy a horseComment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
At least you can put a gas fire out, electrical battery fire burns to the ground. Thats why cheve is telling customers not to charge the car in the garage and to park it 40 feet awayComment
