Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
While we have company vehicles, I will say our company gave every employee a cost of living increase based off of 7% inflation. The owner did this voluntarily and without prompting and can say I have not heard this of any of our competitors here in Cleveland. In fact, one of the companies I had worked for gives techs a flat rate for their vehicles. Guess what, they have gotten squat and are jumping ship left and right.
i am talking about the single guy who has a truck so big it has a rope ladder off the side so he can get into it all whilst working in a field that is not construction or trade related. Folks who will groan at rising gas prices but will pay $3 for bottled fucking water or $8 for a cup of coffee that looks like a sundae. Credit card debt out the ass, 2 car loans, a mortgage, latest and greatest iPhone....and then turns around and complains that they can't afford gasoline....boo fucking hoo dumb ass, you did it to yourself.

Oil slumps 6%, snaps seven week winning streak
Oil prices tumbled about 6% to a four-week low on Friday on worries that interest rate hikes by major central banks could slow the global economy and cut demand for energy.
Also pressuring prices, the U.S. dollar this week rose to its highest level since December 2002 against a basket of currencies, making oil more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
Brent futures fell $6.69, or 5.6%, to settle at $113.12 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $8.03, or 6.8%, to settle at $109.56.
That was the lowest close for Brent since May 20 and the lowest for WTI since May 12. It was also the biggest daily percentage decline for Brent since early May and the biggest for WTI since late March.
For the week, Brent futures declined for the first time in five weeks, while WTI dropped for the first time in eight weeks.
There will be no U.S. trading on Monday, the Juneteenth holiday.
“Crude prices tumbled as the dollar rallied, Russia signaled oil exports should increase, and as global recession fears grow,” said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at data and analytics firm OANDA.
Global central bankers who quickly loosened monetary policy during the pandemic to avoid a recession, are now tightening to fight inflation.
The Federal Reserve this week hiked U.S. rates by the most in more than a quarter of a century.
“With the central banks making pretty substantial moves to limit growth via interest rate hikes and monetary tightening is showing up here in the petroleum complex,” said John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital LLC in New York, noting that slower economic growth should cut energy demand.
With the Fed expected to keep raising interest rates, open interest in WTI futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell on Thursday to its lowest level since May 2016 as investors cut back on risky assets.
U.S. gasoline and diesel futures also slid over 4% on worries high pump prices will reduce demand.
Automobile group AAA said the price of diesel at the pump hit a record high $5.798 per gallon on Friday, while the price of gasoline hit a record high of $5.016 earlier in the week.
U.S. energy firms this week added just four oil rigs as President Joe Biden slammed producers for profiting from sky-high prices instead of doing more to boost output.
Even as his administration wants Saudi Arabia to produce more oil, Biden said he was not going to have a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia’s de facto leader Mohammed bin Salman during his trip to the region next month, and that he was only seeing the Saudi crown prince as part of a broader “international meeting.”
Russia, meanwhile, expects its oil exports to increase in 2022 despite Western sanctions and a European embargo, the Russian deputy energy minister said on Friday, according to Tass news agency.
The market’s turbulence has certainly increased since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.
Russian gas flows to Europe fell short of demand on Friday as an early heat wave in the south boosted demand for air conditioning.
The European Union’s executive body recommended that Ukraine and Moldova become candidates for membership in the world’s largest trading bloc.
An oil tanker chartered by Italy’s Eni SpA will soon depart Venezuela with first cargo in two years to Europe.Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
Do you think the oil companies would "take one" for the average Joe and maybe lower prices? Nah, I do not think so, These oil companies and their executives still continue to rake in millions and billions. They have made a 300% increase in profits in 2022 compared to 2021 alone. 302 MovedComment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
So what the profits they are making . Gas is there when you pull up to the pumps is that not good ? would you rather it be rationed ? How about someone coming into your business and tells you "your profits are to much , lower your profit margin " and then tell you what you can do and not do . Again the oil companies are not owned by a family or single individual its owned by shareholders who count on dividends for there livelihood . This country runs on energy and you have a government that wants to MAKE US SUFFER for a cause that is not a FACT but a belief . Nothing wrong with EV cars but let free enterprise take control of it without the government that not to many people trust .Comment

And how exactly is the government making you "suffer". You just said it's okay for the oil companies to take advantage of a bad situation and make record profits.Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
... the USA is producing roughly 12M barrels of oil per day, higher than at any time in US history including during the Bush/ Obama/ Trump presidency.
Oil companies and refiners are enjoying record profits. The Biden administration is asking these companies to reinvest some of these profits into increasing production.Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
Around 2008 I worked for a copier manufacturer direct (won't say who to protect me). At the time we provided our own service vehicles, got a flat $250/mo and 12 cents/mile reimbursement and gas was around $2. Then gas began it's slow climb to nearly $4. Our regional service vp told us they were losing money on service contracts that were based on $2 gas. So they cut the flat rate to $150/month and kept 12 cents/mile when gas had nearly doubled. He said we had to take one for the team and besides we could deduct it when we itemized our taxes. Shortly after that, all the rats abandonded the sinking ship, myself included. What a butthead, he comes driving in his Mercedes with his golf clubs in the back seat and tells us to take one for the team. Most of us were losing 200-300/mo just to work for this direct. What a joke.I've proved mathematics wrong. 1 + 1 doesn't always equal 2.........

Trucker Issues Warning -- They’re Running Out of Diesel Fuel
If truckers cannot afford fuel, goods are not going to get to stores. You big city folks better stock up on emergency rations cause I don't think that you are going to be able to grow enough fruits and vegetables in couple of flower pot.
And I'm not just talking about groceries. It is everything. Better hope your ice box doesn't die because the big box stores just might be out in the very near future.Comment
