... regardless of your demeaning opinion, President Biden successfully negotiated the release of a US citizen from a Russian jail. That is a great achievement under any circumstances.

The Russian arms dealer was considered to be no longer a threat to the USA. A lot of effort was made by US security services to capture and imprison Victor Bout which President Biden acknowledges.

The Biden administration conducted a security assessment in the lead-up to President Biden giving the final green light to accept the deal to trade Griner for Bout. Ultimately, the assessment’s conclusion was that “Bout was not a security threat to the US,” a US official told CNN.

One reality the assessment took into account, the official said, is the fact that Bout has been in prison for over a decade and has not been actively engaged in any recent criminal activity.

Other than to say that the security assessment conducted on Bout was “thorough,” the official would not elaborate further on how the US was able to be certain that the Russian arms dealer wouldn’t pose a future risk to the country.

According to sniffer Joe, the only way the Soviets would trade Paul Whelan would be for a Russian arrested for spying. Well IMHO the Russians should have been given 12 hours to release Whelan or we would arrest every Russian working at every Russian Embassy and Consulate in the US and its territories and their UN delegation. But then for that you need a President who is a respected world leader instead of a puppet.
