... see the Salton Sea in Southern California. There is potentially enough lithium there to last for decades.

Under President Biden's "Defense Production Act" the USA has committed tremendous resources to develop America into a world leader in battery technology and raw materials.

            Decades..

While there is enough natural resources to last 100+ years.

even better! A lot of money is pouring in to develop this resource. Output is not at commercial scale yet.

Unless they come up with better battery technology, fully electric vehicles will simply be transitional

                    ... not likely.

Batteries can now power vehicles for 100s of km on a single charge. The technology and chemistry keep getting better every year while the costs keep on dropping.

EVs will remain for the rest of our lives.

... plus for the future of the planet the internal combustion engine has to go away.

I wasn't talking about range. I was talking about how bad the current battery technology is on the environment. Even if the Salton Sea thing works out, it is very limited. And lithium is not the only resource needed to manufacture batteries. Extraction of most of the other resources are equally bad on the environment.

Its still a lithium battery just in a solid state instead of liquid or gell.

... the copier industry is rapidly moving to Solid State drives's away from HDD's.

I am not a expert on solid state batteries but the articles I read about them I do not see the comparison between a solid state battery and a solid state HDD other than solid state in the name.
