Well a lot of farms get pretty much exactly the same type of seedlings. I had a customer years who was a commercial nursery and provided seedlings to farms all across the west coast. I can't remember exactly how many green houses he had, at least 18. The environment in each was fully automated on an IBM AT running DOS. He had written his own control system using Symphony. It tracked and adjusted all the environmental conditions for each green house. It also tracked what seedlings each of his customers needed, when they needed them and when they need to be started to met the requested delivery date. When the main planting season ended, he then converted to growing Poinsettias for the Christmas season for a number of retailers.
    Good idea.

I let them germinate and transplant into smaller recycled solo cups, then out to the planting fields one they have grown accustom to sun exposure.
I like Phil's idea of paper towel rolls, I am going to use that. Because the problem I get is when I start my seeds I do not have any barriers and some times I have to cut establishing roots as I start to transplant them.
Yeah and when they get to transplanting stage just slit the side of the tube and replant.

You can go low cost by recycling wooden pallets, though more and more they are going to card board pallets or high cost with new construction lumber. One place to start is checking if there are any nearby schools that have started victory garden type projects.
I have had the idea to use old scaffolding planks and metal droppers. 8 droppers to for one box. Two droppers on each of the four sided. The soil will push from the inside to keep it constructed. That should make for a nice raised bed.

Those work great but you cant move them once they are wet. They split apart and you can plant the seedlings with the remaining material.
        Whatever

You should be able to place them on a large sheet cake pans.

I eat frozen grapes just about every night. Also, the title of 12 scared me a little, I automatically thought, 1 square and both sides.

Here is a good video on using the "Back to Eden" no till method Paul Gauschi developed and leaves. We incorporate no till back to Eden method as well as the lasagna layering methods in our growing areas with excellent results. We have our wood chips dumped by our local tree guy and let them breakdown for over a year or so and then we use them in the growing areas, the reason we let them breakdown is because they become fungal dominate and improves the soil tremendously.
I have heard people criticizing the no till wood chip method but most who complained about it, just added fresh wood chips that were not broken down.

Walking about today I came across wild growing squash and even beter some Termitomyces Clypeatus. Good foraging session.

The foraging continues. Found some Agaricus campestris.

I need to do a little more foraging myself. I love to learn what food grows wild and the benefits they provide.
