    Flashback Monday

Today I drove by a former customer (bank) that I haven't thought about for about a year or so. The anger raged up again. They are a cheapa$$ bank, don't believe in service contracts and have 3-4 branches. I hope someone else sold them machines this go around and I never have to see them again.

The last time I was there, I walked in and asked for the operator and said I am here to service your copier. She had me sign in their vendor log and asked me for ID. I handed her my business card and she asked me for my drivers license also. She grabbed my license and started to walk towards a tabletop to copy it. I told her that I would not allow that because it had my name, dob, address, and license number and that is none of the banks business. Then she started raising a stink, so I grabbed my license back and told her my jacket and shirt has my employers name and logo, I have given you my business card with picture, you can see the company vehicle through the window, you called us, I did not walk in here by random, you can call my employer to verify I am legit if you want, BUT YOU WILL NOT COPY MY LICENSE!! Then she got pissed and threatened this and that, finally I said I want to talk to the bank manager right now. He came out as he was listening in on the escalation and told her to just let me do my job and fix the copier.

    GRRRRRRR

Another time I was staying in Atlanta. I checked in and the clerk asked for ID. I showed her the ID, she was going to scan it into their system and I declined. I told her that is me isn't it? Yep. You have my credit card scanned into your system for payment don't you? Yep. Why do you need to scan my driver's license then? Policy. How long do you keep the scan? Don't know. Tell you what you can scan my license if you give me a paper copy of yours, how's that? Boy did that throw her for a loop. She didn't know what to say. I said let's get a manager here and see what he/she wants to do. The manager let it slide.

Today I was at a car dealership. After I got the copier running again, I plugged into their network. Upon doing this out came print jobs including full color prints of scanned drivers licenses which I could have easily taken to help get identity theft if I were into that sort of thing. I mean it was name, address, dob, license number, color of eyes, hair color, etc.
Most of the computers were unguarded etc. Sales flunkies were out on the lot.

This whole thing just pisses me off, you can't trust anyone anymore. Somehow someone got the digits and exp date on our Discover card. We got an alert from discover about possible fraudulent activity, and to please contact them at the number on back of our card. They said our card was being used online and they were likely guessing at the 3 digit code on back. So they terminated our card and reissued a new one which came a few days later. Probably some hotel flunky or bank clerk somewhere

One last rant. Hippa. I had a nurse pick an argument with me once. Fax wasn't working. She was in an awful hurry to get something faxed to another machine in the hospital. When I asked why they fax to another floor, her response was they have to stay hippa compliant. I handed her some faxes that were sitting beside the machine and said looks like you are not hippa compliant. Then she responded that I was bound by confidentiality. What confidentiality? I never signed anything with the hospital. The fact is the nurse needed to fax, couldn't, and was too lazy, busy, or stupid to take it to another floor or have someone come to get it.

    I'll step off my soapbox.

    Thanks for the venting.

You guys/gals have to put up with this crap too?

I am so tired of identity theft and the US makes it so easy for the bad guys.
    I've proved mathematics wrong. 1 + 1 doesn't always equal 2.........

    Re: Flashback Monday

Early on in the COVID, one of my customers had a large barcode posted, visible on the inside of the front door. According to the sign, I'm supposed scan the barcode, upload some software to my phone, then ... who knows what. The door is locked so I go back to my car.

I called the customer, and told them who I was, and from where. They gave me the spiel about the barcode.

I thanked them for the explanation, but said I will not be loading software to my phone under any circumstances. Decide now. Let me on or not. I'm ok with either choice.

I called then back after 30 minutes to say that I was leaving. They decided to let me in.

I was appalled by the idea of loading some unknown software to my phone to please some customer. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
