Yep, you can't cut (lose fat) and bulk (gain muscle) at the same time. It's just not feasible. I've done this before and in my opinion, a person is better off losing the weight as fast as possible because no one want to go thru that for any longer than they have to. That's just my opinion. Then once the weight is lost, the person needs to eat a lot of calories ( high protein ) in order to add muscle. But again, they will gain some fat and need to "cut" again to lose any added fat if they want to be ripped.

A lot of the timed people get discouraged after a couple of weeks when they don't see any change on their bathroom scale. What they don't understand is that they are replacing fat weight with the same amount of muscle weight. For most there is a point early on where they actually add more muscle than they lose fat. They fail to realize that exercising is getting easier. Keep it going as long as you can until arthritis makes running near impossible. Before that make sure that you have use of an exercise cycle or elliptical that will allow you to exercise the muscles without putting undo stress on the ankles, knees and hip joints.

Injury is always a concern. Especially as we age. I was out running this morning and some dude passed me up. He must have been 65 years old. I could tell that he was a life long runner. He didn't have an ounce of fat on him. His running form was perfect. I think that's pretty amazing for a guy his age and that's what I inspire to be. Thus far I feel great and will will cross the injury bridge should that happen.

I've been mixing up my runs on almost a daily basis. Yesterday, I ran my fastest mile @ 11-minutes. That's middle of the road for my age group. My goal is to run a 7-minute mile. Is it doable? I think so. But it will take some time. We shall see....

Re: Stop being a little bitch

Well, I have completed the first month of my exercise program. There were several improvements made.

            - Lost 16lbs.
            - Lowered my blood glucose level. (I didn't have a problem but I decided to monitor every day.)
-Lowed my blood pressure (I have high blood pressure and am on meds.)
            - I'm able to jog 2-miles comfortably.

I've been lifting weights for one month but it's hard to say how much strength I've gained - if any. I plan to increase the weight on each exercise this month.

I'm keeping a daily journal to monitor my progress but also to monitor my mental state on this journey. Most people quit after a few months, if not before. I'm starting to understand why. I think.

For about 3-weeks, the excitement of getting in shape kept me going. But then that initial excitement starts to wear off and I'm all alone with my mind. And my mind tries to convince me to take a day off or go easy. It's hard to control my mind when it doesn't want to do something. I start thinking about the work/pain involved in pushing myself hard. And then there's the healthy diet that I'm on. Another mind fuck. I keep my food prepared in tupperware bowls at all times so I don't eat unhealthy. It's still hard.

I think it's the daily grind that gets most people. The research says that if a person can do it for 1-year that the change is usually permanent.

I'll tell you in 11-months. Hopefully.

I've lost 3 more pounds. That's 19 total. I've run a lot of miles. Lifted a lot of weights. I'm gonna have to be careful on the weights. I tweaked a muscle in my upper thigh. Nothing serious, thankfully. I put too much weight on the leg press machine. I skipped running yesterday to be on the safe side. I'm going to the gym later tonight and I plan to run a couple of miles on the dreadmill.

Try starting to concentrate on different muscle groups each day, no more than three times a week on any muscle group. That includes running distances of more than a mile. On days you don't run, start doing aerobics and Pilates. 15 to 30 minutes daily of stretch and flex will help prevent those muscles tweaks and actually help burn calories. There is a shit load of DVDs available.

My leg injury has gotten much better but when I would run, it was still bothering me. So, I've been walking. I may try to test it out in just a few minutes.

I've been using an app on my phone to keep track of what exercise I was doing at the gym along with how much weight, how may sets and reps. I'm definitely getting stronger and I've been increasing the number of reps or the weight each week.

One very important thing is that you have a medical stress test at certain ages and efforts, the heart can say enough is enough, I'm 55 and I go out a couple of times a week to do about 10Km and I do one a year.

I got back on the horse. Today is the first day that I've been able to run completely pain free. I did a mile today. I didn't want to overdo it. In the morning, I'lll do 2 miles. I'm gonna wait another week before I start doing resistance training for my legs.

Re: Stop being a little bitch

I've been very busy the past couple of weeks doing the following:

                        - Running 2-miles every morning.

                        - Lifting weights

                        - Adhering to a very strict low-carb diet.

                        - Cold calling via telephone (Sales calls).

All of those are hard. Which one do you think is the hardest?

                        Answer: Cold Calling. By far.

Does the old formula of roughly 50 cold calls in order to get 1 sale still pretty much apply? Or does it only to actually going to potential new customers' offices?

I keep track of my call to sell ratio in my CRM. I'd say that 50 is pretty close when it's averaged out over the entire year. Some days I make over 100 calls. It gets to anyone after a while.

I have an appointment first thing in the morning at a car dealership. I got the appointment by cold calling over the phone.

I need to add this. While cold calling is grueling work, the feeling I get when I make a sell can't be matched anywhere else in my life. It's like doing the best drug ever.

I'm mixing sales and working out in this thread but I wanted to follow up. I met with the DM at the car lot this morning. It took about 10-minutes to close the deal. We deliver the machine on Friday. Sometimes they're easy like this one. Most of the time that's not the case.
