Sales- Hey, can you make machine x on customer y do that thing?
Tech- No, the machine isn't conceived to do that.
Sales- Oh, come on, don't be like that!
If only my sales guys asked beforehand. If a customer asks whether the machine can do something, their response is always YES, YES, YES, whatever it takes to make the sale, and then they leave it to me to explain what the machine is actually capable of.

      I was just venting.
Kinda funny how it is world wide.

Thanks for reading and putting your $0.02 worth in.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Why is it that when the girl clicks on the print button and the piece of paper doesn't come out of the box next to her she rings me to complain?

Why doesn't she ring Bill Gates and have a whinge about his over complicated networking system that some IT twat fiddled with yet again and lost all the IP addresses!

I know that this is wishful thinking (at best!), but actually talking with the salesman before an installation can bypass a lot of grief.

It's well worth the time spent.

Of course, the trick is to get him to be honest with you.

I was about to take it but I see you beat me to it. I will also give you extra points for the citation.

Do not take this the wrong way but what have you been smoking and is it legal. I have talked to the salesmen, given them a cheat sheet, gone and helped them fill it out till they understand what is on it. And they still do not have the info when the machine is ready for delivery. Now it does happen once in a while that I receive this before delivery or on the day of delivery but usually (8 out of 10 times) they do not even know if there is a live jack(electrical or network or phone) for the copier to plug into. I even had a machine sold for network faxing but NO fax board in the machine or on the sales order!! I even had a copier (20 amp plug needed) delivered and the old one removed only to find that the onsite power was a 15 amp circuit and the SALESMEN said that WE would take care of it when it was delivered. (And yes it was written on the sales order!!!)
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Like Mr. Spock says, lack of information is the rule not the exception. I ask for 48 hours notice of a delivery, yet most times I get 2 hours or less. And when the machine is loaded I ask "Where is it going?" the answer is "You know the grayish building near Telegraph & 6 mile....?"

No, No, No! Address please! Phone #, Contact, Site Survey,... come on guys!
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
