The salesman is the goose here - and his employer. When I was a tech I got the most crap from law firms. "It jams continuously" (check jam counters, 10 jams in 10K). "Dirty copies" (crud on glass) Etc.

Sign them up quick or get it out - quick (as mentioned already).

I think demos are overrated and overused.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

          They're not ALL bad...

It seems like lawyers are either your best or worst customers.

The smaller practices aren't aren't always exactly "wonderful", as so many of us have already shared. I think we've all had our bad experiences; after 31 years of doing this, I know I have.

The larger firms, though, can present tons of opportunity for dealers. They will be the most likely candidates for: eCopy, Equitrac, Auto Store, all kinds of document management, and managed facilities, if your dealership offers it - plus whatever other products and services you may have to offer.

Not to make excuses, keep in mind that the products and service we sell are part of a law office's lifeblood - just by the nature of what they do. I think that's the main reason they can be so demanding.

Some of the largest success stories in my neck of the woods have been at legal firms.

Hahaha so I just found out this customer has not bought this machine, 35k later and like 10 months. They are pissed with it, they have to keep cleaning the glass and now the document feeder is skewing and jamming like crazy. Get it out of here they say! I checked the fucking feeder. There was a "Please sign here sticky" stuck in it haha. The lady was ready to run up one side of me and down the other. Then i ripped that out. She backed way the hell off.

Didn't help the fuser bearing failed. One day we will get the upgraded kits!

Oh and the special thing, apparently the salesman pushed his commission though back in Jan

This is why we will NOT do demos unless we have a showroom model machine :-)

                Yes...lawyers are stupid.

They tell us they are qualified to read the fine print on documents but are completely inept when it comes to reading messages off the control panel that tell them all sorts of messages...things like, replace toner cartridge, exit tray full....or my personal favourite....the machine is jammed, but the display panel has a service code event.

10 months and 35K? Sounds like a smart lawyer and a stupid dealer to me . There needs to be hard limits agreed upon prior to an on site demo IMHO, no signature on the sales order after x days or x copies then send in the crew to pull the machine.

Agree to what was said. That lawyer was not stupid - a prick, maybe; an opportunist, surely; but definitely not stupid!

Sales person from another dealer walked into my lawyers office off the street and asked the receptionist if he could speak to the lawyer or office manager. The Gal at the front desk told him that no one was there except her. but if he left a card, she can hand it to them when they got back.

A week later, delivery guys showed up with a copier all wrapped up and told the receptionist that this was there new copier. the gal told them that she wasn't aware that they had bought a new copier. the delivery guy told her that it was a demo unit for them to try out.

When the lawyer got back from court, she called up the dealer and told them that he had not asked for a demo and that they can come back and pick up the copier. "Of course, we will send the guys to pick that up right away".

That was over a year ago. I went to my lawyer's office a couple of week ago, the copier is still wrapped in the kitchen waiting for the guys to come back to pick it up.

Now that's an original way of getting rid of old copiers! Just wash them real good and scrub off all the goo and then give them off as demo machines! I bet the guy went there first just to make sure they had plenty of space to store the junk!
