    Re: Do you stop work for lunch?

    I have worked at places where my clients would take me to lunch.
    I really enjoyed my work when I was back in both sales and service; I handled the sale and installation of
    computers, cash registers, barcode scanners, inventory control systems, etc ....... One of my clients owned a Deli ....
    He would MAKE me eat lunch when I was there working on his equipment. Most would allow us to eat free when we were doing an install or up-grade to their systems.

    I have also worked where some of the employees would stop lunch to do a little work !

        Re: Do you stop work for lunch?

        Where I work, The powers that be frown upon us if we DON'T take an hour lunch break.

        If I'm out of town for the day (Sometimes I head 2-300 k's west to do general maintenance calls) I usually skip my lunch break, and grab a quick snack on my way back home. I usually leave the office at 8am and arrive at home bang on 5pm. Sometimes later depending any service calls that pop up while I'm out there.

        If we work any time over 7.5hours we get time in lieu, instead of being paid overtime. The bosses hate paying overtime.

          We are also supposed to have an hour lunch officially but it probably only works out that I actually take that amount 1-2 days a week and often if I'm doing faraway callouts that I won't get back in until after 2 p.m. anyway. Work through plenty of days and should try to take more of an effort to take the break. Most days even when I'm in the shop a half hour is plenty as there's so much to do.

            Company position is to always take scheduled breaks. Probably an OSH thing.

            When I worked at a place that treated techs like shi*, I never missed at least a half hour stop. If I had to work thru, I left for home early or made it up some where else. Now that I work for myself, I bring lunch and eat at my desk or in my car.

                Re: Do you stop work for lunch?

                case 1:
                lack of income = lack of savings = no lunch stop but dinner;

                case 2:
                enough income = enough savings = no debt = lunch;

                Case 3:
                @ setting up at clients site = far from office = clients lunch time/no one in the office = we have to stop = have lunch/no lunch = you decide.

                  I generally eat lunch in my van between calls. If I am in the shop I actually get to sit and relax, but, that doesn't happen often.

                      I have the same issue. I can work the whole day without lunch and i'll be fine. As soon as I have had a break for an hour and digesting food it's sleepy time.

                            My manager is really good to me, so I do take lunch sometimes, but I'm happy to work through it, especially when we're busy, it really is a case of give and take within my team, and I like to think I pull my weight, so I can have time off during the day if I need it, I like working for a manager like that
