I've been in this industry over 25 years and still can't figure out why sales reps can't sell shit until the last two days of the month!!! What's wrong with the other 18-20 other business days of the month?
I would agree with that and alot of it is the salesman's fault but the customer shares alot of blame too. Many companies take forever to close a deal and alot are on monthly and quarterly budgets and don't spend it til the end of the cycle. So give the poor bastards a break- me included- and just trash us for the really stupid stuff we can do like promise the customer it will make coffee along with copies. Fire extinguisher at the ready.
Personal fave is when the accessories aren't in and they still want it delivered. Because the customer really wants to see their machine in pieces on the office floor during the first month.

Happens all the time here as Kyocera has been notorious lately for back ordering accessories.
It was at a Kyocera dealership that I encountered this.

I just cornered a well seasoned rep about this horsecrap last week, when we got hit by a 6 machine install of his without warning, all on October 29. Two of the machines were Segment 6 (135 pages per minute), so this was no "basic" install.
He couldn't really give me a straight answer, other than "you don't understand the stress we're under", and "the customer wanted it now." Yeah, right.
To further perpetuate the issue, the contracts normally are written to start at the beginning of the month, so that we can "flip the switch" on the first of the month.
I tried to explain to him that we can't possibly be at our best when we get bombed at the last minute, with or without warning, but I don't think it will make much difference.

Its all so the stupid rep can get their super high paychecks at the end of the month and show that they are maintaining a minimum quota...they care little about anything else...typical of this species.

Please do not PM me for questions related to Konica Minolta hardware.
I will not answer requests or questions there.

To some extend it sounds like laziness...normally you could count on 1-2 sales per week. I've had my handle at sales and it can be depressing and very psychologically damning...but if you're good at it then it is very rewarding.

Opposite end of the spectrum, we had a sales gerbil push out segment 3 and 4 boxes to a customer, fully connected - print, scan, fax directly to folders, et cetera. This office had no dedicated IT person and not every user (30+, not all on site at the same time) had admin rights on their own computers, all with differing a/v software. So yeah, the hardware took a couple hours to install, the connected side took a week of 10 hour days. All. too. common.
"But it's only a 45 cpm machine, how hard can it be?"
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I maintain that the smaller machines proportionately take more time and effort than the larger ones do, just for these reasons.
The Segment 6 machines I mentioned were a logistic nightmare more than anything else; lack of space, narrow doorways, etc...
Even though this customer (a health insurance company) prints HUGE mainframe reports, the software side of the beasts went very smoothly.
