    I can be one also { an idiot}

    I made the 6 hour trip to take my youngest son to spend the week with his mother yesterday, before he starts collage. When I got home, my cable was out. My wife had not noticed as she had been watching movies. We called it in and the cable company said there were no reported outages in the area, try to unplug and reboot the system. We went through all that and none of it worked. When my wife called them back, the cable company said there were reported outages in the area and they were working on it. When I got up this morning, still no cable. I went to visit my mother and when I got back, still no cable. I knew by now it was isolated to my home, so I called it in. I was very calm and polite with the girl who answered the phone. She had me go through the reset procedure again and I did. While waiting for it to boot, I made small talk with her telling her how I do not envy what she does because of all the rude and stupid people out there. She giggled as if to agree, but I knew she couldn't talk about customers because the call was being recorded. That poor girl must get yelled at a lot by people going crazy because they can't watch tv for a few hours, judging by the way she kept saying she was sorry. She set up a service call for me for tomorrow and I thanked her for her help. As soon as I hung up I was thinking that it was going to be an easy fix and I did not want to look stupid. I started thinking about basic stuff and in a split second I had it. My cable system is a total of 4 boxes and one of them is the primary or master box. That happened to be the one in my sons room and when he left, he did what he should have, which was unplug everything. I plug the box back in and fixed my cable and promptly called and cancled my work order. That is why I am super nice when I call for any kind of tech support... cause I can be one also!,

    A polite, funny idiot is a lot easier to take than a rude, abrasive idiot. I too try to be the first type.

    It seems like anyone dealing directly with people daily allows a little leeway. I try to make peoples jobs easier when I can. =^..^=
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      I try to be nice on the phone. People are a lot more willing to help you out and go that extra mile if your being nice.

      I always give my dad hell when he rips some person a new asshole over the phone because he is displeased with something they are doing or done. I keep telling him to ask for their manager, at least they are paid to deal with that shit and might actually be able to suggest changes vs the poor sap that answers the phone.

        totally agree...taking out your frustrations with a person trying to help you on the phone does nothing for anyone.

        Great job figuring out your issue on your own though!!!
