Read the error off of the display...please.

Ok...Don't you just hate it when end-users can't seem to get the error code right? The code is nowhere in the manual and you're expected solve it. I've had 2 of these this week. How hard is it to read the display? Obviously this is a challenging feat for a good portion of corporate America.

There is always some credibility to it since I have come across the occasional error code the manufacturers left out of the SM, but I really hate checking out everything and finding out it was some dumb thing like time to replace the cartridge.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

      Enduser: "The machine doesn't work."
      Me: "Is there an error?"
Enduser: "It says to call you."
Me: "You mean 'Call For Service'?"
      Enduser: "... yes that."
Me: "... and after the Call For Service, there is a letter and four numbers."
Enduser: "Nope. Just Call For Service."
      Me: "... something like C6050?"
Enduser: "Nope. Just ... oh wait, how did you know?"
Me: "Just a wild guess, actually.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If the customer called and said the machine is asking for one of the color image units, and you went to the site with just the color they ask for and not all three colors, then you have not been doing this long enough.

Re: Read the error off of the display...please.

had one yesterday...loaded PS3 onto two Ricohs. got a call back later that the remote site couldnt print to one but could print to the other. the IT is 6 hours away. so i'm talking to the office manager. i finally get to the question "could he print to it before?", he replies, i'm not sure. so i get there this morning. the network cable has no signal to it. i was able to connect with laptop with same cable. but jack in wall is dead.

apparently, the signal was supposed to "wirelessly" print to a printer that was never hooked up in the first place.

i get a call today that the mfp wasnt printing correctly. so i run back to the site (was there earlier for another machine), couldnt locate the complaintant, so i ask the receptionist about it. she goes, we replaced yours with another brand. i was there to help the guy print to a competitors machine. he was using my print driver on another manufacturer...but somehow, its my duty to fix it...lol

That was awfully thoughty of you to help your competitor replace your machine. He wasn't too smart if he was trying to re-direct the Ricoh driver to another brand or model printer (and couldn't figure out how to change the port!).

I'd have shook his hand heartily and said "Have at it!" and strolled out the door. =^..^=

Back on the original topic of reading errors off the display...

I had spoken to one of our customers about 2.5-3 hours away, they were having a data decompression error on their machine, simple fix occasionally of turning it off and on, or in this case I would give them the reset codes over the phone... Call had come in on a Friday afternoon, and I couldn't possibly make it to the site in time to fix anything, so the weekend passes and I called on the following Monday. I asked if the person who answered would be able to walk behind her literally 10 feet to the copier and see if the error was still there (they shut the machine off on weekends). She said she was unable to do so, and my jaw literally dropped.

I informed her that if I were to drive out there and find nothing wrong with the machine, that she would be paying my travel costs and a labour charge, and she agreed... Can anyone guess how it turned out?
