    Windows7

    After a coffee and a smoke, I'm still fuming about this POS OS.

    I have just spent my whole morning setting up scan to SMB for a small home network. Wireless this and that and everything in between, I'd just like to say a big f*** you to all involved with the folder sharing setup. It really shouldn't be as hard as it is.
    Call me a grumpy prick, but I just hate this operating system,, It wants to take over and do everything for you(like Vista wasn't bad enough), then when something doesn't work how it should ya don't know where to start looking.

    Rant over.

      I had the same thing. Set folder to shared 15 times, didn't work. Finally found some bogus advanced tab with a check box "share this folder" WTF

          Then, of course, the home versions are different from the pro versions.

          (It sounds like you were wrestling with Home.)

          If you're foolish enough to call tech support, no matter which one it is, you get the infamous "We don't support home versions" line.

          I've seen and heard so many "You need to do this..." suggestions, not just on CopyTechNet.com but from various sources, that you just don't know who to believe.

              in security settings>advanced setting>"SMB datagram in" under printer and networked devices need to be set to recieve all ip's OR you can specifically assign it the ip of the computer. Typically I go in and change all printer functions to receive all IP's and once scanning is good I change them to a specific IP. pita.

                  Well, I don't have these problems, but I can say that I really hate Windoze 7. I'm running Ultimate and it sucks bigtime. I can't go back to XP on this machine 'cause XP won't run with the kind of memory in this new Dell.
                  I've had this new PC since December.

                      That's peculiar, M4Y. I recently saw an brand new Dell, shipped with Windows7, with the OS had been blown out in favor of XP. Ain't that a kick in the pants? Worked fine. Was odd seeing XP load on a computer with W7 cerificates on it... What a waste.

                      I suppose it's like anything new. PITA until you get used to it. Give it time.

                          Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Still don't know how I managed to make it work (tech bluffing his way through life as usual) but I don't care as long as it keeps working.

                              I've been told that the memory in my new PC isn't compatible with Win XP. Go figure.

                                  Forget SMB and use FTP, it's easily set up and working in Five Minutes on any OS with almost any MFP, the only drawback is it's best with static IP's.

                                      Similar problem here. I have Win7 home version (64 bit) on 2 PC's at the home. I want to share printer between the 2. I've not had enough time to play with it, but so far have been unable to get it to work. Everything else I like on Win7, but printer sharing sucks.

                                          XP does have certain limitations, most notably the fact that the HDD the OS is installed on can't pass 137gb (partition the rest somewhere else as a workaround), non 64-bit editions also have their 4gb RAM limitations as well...

                                          Bit of a double edged sword, they both have their pluses and minuses, however unfortunately XP is quite dated... Just goes to show, you can't improve on perfection.

                                                  I totally agree with FTP being a wonderful solution, but there's only one problem. While this may be easy to accomplish in a mom-and-pop environment, IT folks at larger companies normally, (read "almost always") say no to it.

                                                          Yep. I've had same issues with Windows 7. Personally, I've never been a fan of Vista and up. I like the way it sets up printers on a network, but I hate everything else. Everytime I've tried to set up SMB stuff, it just doesn't work period.
