    Copiers on Life Support

Don't you just hate these calls? Machine is at least 10 years old, making an awful noise, parts are discontinued, customer has heard a thousand times that the device is old and they need to upgrade and you look like you were working in the coal mine after you're done... but they still remain on contract! Last call today was a Mita (No Kyocera yet) AI-2310L. The main charge was stuck inside the image unit. Toner all over inside, in the cassettes. The whole machine was darker than the new TASKalfas. Now I have to check with my parts guy tomorrow to see if any PM parts are on the shelf or even available. I'm almost embarrassed to ask.

Got my list of calls for tomorrow and another 2310. Part of the symptom is dirty copies. Dirty copies, that's not a symptom, that's an attribute of the 2310/3010s. Worst thing before this was a huge customer that had a bunch of Mita AI-1810Fs (not to be confused with the later KM/CS-1810) and even had a DC-2355 from 1992. They have upgraded to FS-1128s since then. Pull the plug already people!!

I feel your pain and have complete sympathy with you, we still have customers with Canon NP1550's and NP6030's that will not accept that the machine is a piece of s**t and the only thing that will fix it - is a lump of C4!

What makes it funny is that we jack their click charge up and up, and they still pay - even though we give them a free quote and show they can have a brand spanking new, all singing, all dancing, bells and whistles included - and STILL save them over half the cost of what they are paying!

It's a miracle they are still in business with that sort of economic sense.

Hehe, they always seem to be in the arse end of no-where too, last old junkers I saw were literally on the edge of my area 100+ miles from my usual stomping ground.

I've been out to a couple of the Ricoh FT series analogue boxes recently ("Kingfisher" engine type desktop machines), only having been a toner monkey for less than five years I never saw these things first time round. lotsa fun!

Also recently I went to an Aficio 850 (the first Bellini digital h/v machine! Got to be ten years old now) with a busted fuser drive pulley. This has to be the only one left in our area as even the 2090 is a rare sight these days.

We just had someone ask for toner for their SF2214. I found some but now I'm afraid they will want us to keep it running for them.

              hi
yesterday a customer called in with sf-2214 and wanted to print and scan!

he was woried that the new copier in the office can do it,but not the old one.

i told him that i will be very woried if the old sf-2214 started printing and scanning

we both had a good laugh

I still have people asking for toners for the old Sharp Z85's. I had to do a drum and blade on a 7320 a year ago.

The service manuals back then were really different.

After seeing Ricoh and Canon manuals i must say Sharps are the best.

                        They're not!!!

Most of it is Katun stuff or parts we have stockpiled around or anything that fits and works! Since my post about these the MD has sent a letter out to the customers saying we are no longer going to even try to fix these. I f they want to keep them they will have to find someone else or they can get an upgrade. So far most have gone for an upgrade but one or two have said see you later?!?

I have to agree with that. Canon seemed to scatter things all around I thought and Sharp was a better layout. I didn't care for some Toshiba manuals...had to find a code once and it was a fuckmare.

ABSOLUTELY! One time, I swear I had to look in about 3-4 books to find everything related to a topic...and always stupid shit like turn the machine off...hold these 11 buttons, turn the machine on, press these buttons, look up this number, then enter that code, then stick your hand in the machine and hold this switch without opening the door, remove the yellow toner...well, u get the idea.

Open the PDF, hit the ctrl and F key to open the search bar (or use the search bar at the top) and type in the error code or keyword.

Oce' manuals required Lotus Notes, as they were more like a shit-ton of linked webpages instead of PDFs. You had to have a license to get onto the server to get manuals & bulletins. Don't miss that shit one little bit.
