Especially, when I've been on the freeway for over 3 hours due to traffic, I've had a 42 oz drink when I left work, the next exit is my exit, and I have to go pee. I call that an emergency. If it isn't one, it will soon be one. I put my emergency lights on (even though I know that's not what they're for, I'm trying to be a safe driver), and drove to my exit utilizing the shoulder and the grass as an emergency lane.

GAWD, I feel for you and blkcat...you guys have the most brutal commutes (regularly) than anyone I've ever heard of, exc. a buddy I used to work with that used to commute 4 hrs. !

The WORST commute home I ever had was during a snowstorm.....your potty emergency reminded me of it!! I had to hang it out and pee in the middle of an icy bridge (after the FIRST 3 hours of crawling/not moving) over a lake to applause and thumbs-up! Hoping, of course that the state patrol didn't happen to be in a car...fortunately, none for a mile that I could see. No, I did NOT have a suitable bottle to relieve myself in privately.
By the way, that was only 15 miles from my work area to home!!!
Also, your avatar (prntrfixr) is quite appropriate for this thread!! Is that TOONCES, the driving (human killing) cat????

7/ In the UK at a roundabout we give way to traffic coming from the right, I don't even think about this consciously anymore therefore if you are approaching from my right and you stop at the give way line, it completely screws me up. Don't flash your lights to let me go just go!!!!!!Because as soon as I decide to go, you'll change your mind and go and then the resulting accident will be deemed to be my fault, plus the guy behind you nearly rear ended you because he wasn't expecting you to stop.

I would say at least 30% of drivers at roundabouts don't indicate (blinkers). So your stopped giving way to the right and he hesitates for a while and turns left, you missed your opportunity to move because his lack of indication. The car behind him does the same....

Knee jerk brake lights..

Your on a motorway there's two cars in front of you with about 30 feet or a comfortable distance between each. The first driver brakes for some reason. The second one for no reason does the same. You either overtake these idiots or pull back and find someone more sensible to drive behind.

On motorways I like to leave a reasonable distance between me and the car in front. Some one always pulls in leaving me tailgating.

That's why there are very few roundabouts (we called them rotaries in Maine) in Georgia (one near me but single lane). No one is a good enough driver to figure them out. There's a lot up north Boston, Mass and one good sized one in Augusta, Maine. In the states, you're supposed to get in the left lane until you need to turn and then get in the right lane to turn. I just stay in the right, by the time someone let's me in to the left and then back to the right, I've passed my turn twice!

I don't have to do the long commute anymore. It used to be 1.5 hours home, unless it was Friday or there was an accident. The 3 hour incident was a Friday. One time they closed the highway due to a tractor trailer accident (chemical truck). I had to stay overnight at a friend's house.

Now I have school buses and traffic lights on single lane roads with no way to pass. Just have to be patient because I can't go anywhere, but it only takes me 33 minutes to work. The stress isn't as bad. Gotta love improvement in that.

Working on my logo for my new company (side business right now, I haven't changed jobs). When I get it done, it will be my new avitar. Hopefully, no one will mind that.

OH MY GOD!!!!!

I hope our city planners don't see this.
They love round abouts. We have one that is a figure 8.
It confused a cop I know (he is a friend and a good cop) and he dumped his city motor cycle.

Our little town has 3 single lane roundabouts and the majority of drivers here haven't figured them out yet. The planners here are looking into putting in a 2 lane. Good plan. Should be quite a show.

There was a figure 8 one in the Boston area I think and certain lanes were blocked in the middle so if you were in rotary 1 and wanted to effectively make a U-turn, you had to go up to rotary 2 turn and come back down. This was right near a hotel I stayed at near Logan airport. If you don't know where you're going or miss your turn, expect to get to go around twice since there are 2 of them. I can't imagine 6. That must be suicide. When I lived at the old house and had to take the freeway friends from out of town couldn't believe I drove Spaghetti Junction (local name for it. Official name is Tom Moreland Interchange.) everyday. It's a piece of cake compared to the one you just showed us skynet.

The roads in the UK are not on the same scale as what you have. We have a few spaghetti junctions but no where near as vast as in your picture. As for my.

What's a roundabout.....lol....in Jersey we have 2 "large" ones..a couple of "mini" roundabouts...what we have instead are "filter in turn" junctions....which do exactly as they say...if you have 3 or more roads, then a vehicle from each road filters in turn & it keeps the traffic moving....but it confuses the hell out of the holiday makers....on one of the major roads into town they had traffic lights, which caused horrendous problems, then when they broke down everybody automatically filtered in turn...so now they got rid of the lights..

Our one in Benfleet / Basildon they are ripping out because of the long tailbacks they cause, the design of it isn't at fault, it's just that the idiots put it in at the junction of two of the major 'A' roads in the area which handles 70% of the traffic in south Essex. It is also one of the only two roads onto Canvey Island which is largly residential so rush hour goes at a snall's pace!!!
