We used to have a properly battered Ricoh 1224c (of all things), right at the customer service/tobacco counter at my local supermarket. I used to dread going shopping there with my Missus over the weekend and seeing an "Out Of Order" sign on it.

...see that on a Saturday and have the feeling of impending dread for the rest of the weekend that I'm going to have to fix that heap of junk on Monday.

I worked in a shop where customer names were not spoken unless they had a call up, because as soon as you say their name they will call.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

...which reminds me: The bigger heap of junk a machine is, the more salespeople will like it.

Can't tell you how many 1224c machines were out there just because they were cheap color... well, they were cheap for a reason.

When Mrs lagonda was in hospital last year getting her knee upgrade fitted, guess whose company supplied the printers in that ward? She rang me one day to say she was being discharged that afternoon and could I pick her up, "and by the way, bring your tool kit with you."

So true... Even thinking about them seems to do the trick!

We do have a second type of weird customer calls though: the holiday callers.

Whenever there is holiday, we get a call by certain customers who show no sign of life during the rest of the year. The kind of customer who makes you wonder how many years it must have been since they last called. And it's always, without exception, some weird problem or an sc code that you never had before, resulting in either a few trips back and forth with non frequently used spares or looking up the most obscure parts in the copier.

my one involves coffee....why is it when you're stuck on a m/c & the customer makes you a coffee, the m/c suddenly starts working, so you dont have time to drink it, or when you attend, the customer offers you a coffee & you decline..as you know it's only a quick job & you wont have time to drink...the m/c deicdes to throw a wobbly & you spend the next couple of hours fixing it...
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

What about when you haven't had a particular major (and dreaded) repair in a long while. Then, you finally do have to do one, you will end up having to do the same thing on the next 2 calls. 3 in a row is how it always goes.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Another one that used to get me; all machines of a particular model are running great and then Lanier/Ricoh would come out with a tech bulletin/field servcie update and bam! all the machines start dying one after the other and now they all have to have the update that just came out. Never figured that one out!

No it's there's a person that goes around after dark sabotaging all the machines and they were told to call my company and asked that I come out. It's a conspiracy, I tell you. They're out to get us!

A simple call for a spot on the copy will turn into a 3 day part replacement/PM time fiasco!
