Besides, as I have told people who ask about my job, it is the only job I have ever had where people have hugged me for showing up, and I have received a round of applause when I walked into a room.

i have never had this happen sadly enough; have been groveled too and one offer to get married after fixing the problem but never hugged........

I too have been there, then I think of my last few jobs, security guard, work for the big WM, unloading trucks in receving dept, btw, they unload one box at a time, by hand for the most part, I been in the copier business for going on 13 years now, and was looking, had a offer come my way, smaller dealer, one brand of machines, whole new outlook on it all..dont need nearly the car stock I used to carry, now I drive a PU truck again, and I love it.

been there done that with x-amount of brands. used to be a xerox dealer (thank god not anymore) and life is getting easier. still doesnt stop burning out but

Sometimes it is not what you think. i am 6'1" 220 pounds and the one I remember was a soilder larger than be hugging me because he was so happy I showed up.

I've been carrying a tool kit for 21 years now and have never had worse burnout than I am in right now. Everyday is a struggle to leave the house. I know I have it good. I know I'll never have the freedom in any other job that I have now. I know I am well paid, especially for this area (and company). What I don't know is how I'm going to pull out of this one.

I do know that with four young kids I cannot afford to switch careers and start over doing something else. I think that's why I'm having a hard time right now is that I'm really burned out and really trapped in this job. I suppose it'll pass...

I've only been working on copiers for bout a year and a half. Used to work on printers and such back in the day. I enjoy working on copiers, something about mechanical things and how they work. Tho reading this thread reminds me of a quote from the movie Clerks "This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking customers." Like this morning I get a call for a bank in town, now 99% of these calls are due to the fact that the women who work there make all other women look bad with the lack of intelligence in this building. They call and the fax isn't working. I walk in and first thing I notice is the damn phone cord isn't plugged in. I wasn't surprised by this. Just plugged it in sent and received a fax, smiled and left knowing it's Friday.

I have been long in this field and like others I occasionally feel fatigued and burnt out as well. But then I look backwards and realize how this job has pulled me out of poverty and continues to add value to my life, and then I say to myself...'to hell with this burnout, it must be the devil's trick to bring me down & reverse all the gains I have made.' This gives me the strength to throw off the blankets and jump out of the bed.

With improvement & new innovations in the copier industry, especially the incorporation of IT in this industry, the business is becoming sweeter & sweeter everyday. As a matter of fact it is very difficult to quit this field. There are some members of this forum who joined this field when I was still in diapers, and they are still going strong. Ask yourselves 'why'.

After 30 years I still enjoy the feeling of figuring out difficult problems and seeing how long I can make a machine run without a service call.
I got burned out working for dealers or greedy sales people.
I run my own show now and enjoy it even more.
I will die with a screw stick in my hand and toner on my fingers.

I did a year as a manager at a Dairy Queen in a really really small town in the northern panhandle of Texas. It was the most horrible job I think I've ever had. I was at a point in my life where I was looking for a job and going back to managing fast food or joining the military during wartime was the options I came down to. I chose the military. I have made it quite clear to those who know me that I would rather go shovel shit than work fast food again....tho those two things are pretty much the same these days.....

I started in this industry in 1974. After 30 years I said that's it. Sold my business. Stayed with the company for a few years and said to myself. I wish I hadn't have sold out. Moved to other side of the mountains and started over. Glad I had a little nest egg saved up. If you have a job be happy. You could be unemployed and living in a cardboard box??
