      Re: burned out

Going back quite a few years ago, I burned out and got to the point where I tried to avoid going to work period.

The turning point where I started to become interested again was my bosses decision to put me into a mainly IT based role whereby I was in the same job, but doing a different role.

The old saying still goes "Change is as good as a holiday".
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Any time I feel that way, I just remember the other jobs I had. Making car parts in an unairconditioned plant, at 1750 degrees, covered from head to toe in graphite, and waiting for the plant to close and move overseas. Fixing copiers kicks ass.

No burnout here, still too green. There are days where I'd like to avoid stupid customers for their own safety however.

after 34 yrs in the same job...it happens occasionally, but luckily, i do have a great bunch of customers, also, i think of the positives, like working in lots of different offices, instead of being stuck behind a desk all day long in the same office, and how i get to walk around in the sunshine all day long, going between jobs & getting paid for it....
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

I still like being a copier tech - just really very seriously severely disappointed discouraged dismayed and definitely burnt out with the Ricoh at the moment.

just snort a few lines of colour toner, mix the office coffee with the black toner, and then take the rest of the day to visit with clients.
spend some quality time with your significant other in a hotel/motel and then think about the honey do list.
that should take care of the burn out for you.

I just spend a few consecutive days doing a roof, in August. And by the time I manage to fall out of bed the next morning and crawl across the floor, I think how wonderful it is to have an office job. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                      Re: burned out

I revitalise with the usual immoral vises: wine , women and song.
But then the alarm clock goes off and I realise all that wine, women and song was
all a just a wishful dream...
I then put one foot out of bed and then the other, and face the day all over again.

I do a spot of deep sea fishing when I can get out.
I have adult children which keep me busy.
I do a bit of workshop engineering from time to time.
I do a bit of multi-media on my PC on rainy days.

My missus reconds I don't exercise enough any more. I gave her the options of changing my current exercise schedule into a "sexercise" schedule but she declined my reasonable offer. She just adds and extra pancake and syrup to the morning breakfast instead. Hey I say with the extra weight I'm putting on at least you will have more husband to cuddle.

                        Re: burned out

After 11 years on the job i sometimes feel the burn out. But like others have said. I look back at the other jobs that I have had from machine operator on graveyard shift to gas attendant to dishwasher. I mainly do IT related work now for my company so that is a big motivator also my two kids, well you know they have to eat. My best suggestion for anyone that is really burned out is to better your self and try to make a change gradually to a better position.

                          Re: burned out

The only time I ever really got burned out was when we had a school district for 3 years. Some days I would find myself staring at the tip of my flat head screwdriver, pondering how little pressure it would take to plunge it deep into my neck and end my suffering. Oh yes, and the district was so cash strapped the teachers brought their own paper. Maybe this Philips screwdriver would work better I pondered....
For three long, long, so long years: the same schools, the same calls, the same idiots.
The one thing I do miss is the copiers in the teacher lounges. It was great to listen to all the teachers talk about certain kids whom they all hated and often referred to as "lil bastards.
                          Good times.

It's such a unique and blessed career.

We go on stretches were we don't think we can't fix our way out of a paper bag. Want to quit.

Then we can spend two weeks cleaning slit glass, swapping IUs, changing feed tires and we're the hero.

And don't overlook the down time in our vehicles, and of course secretaries bending over to show us "where it jams" if you know what I mean.

Besides, as I have told people who ask about my job, it is the only job I have ever had where people have hugged me for showing up, and I have received a round of applause when I walked into a room.
