Are We Impervious To Paper Cuts?

I don't know about you, but I cannot remember the last time I had a paper cut.

I went into an account today, and this kid had a total of 6 paper cuts between both of his hands. It was a law office and he had stacks and stacks of reports to look through by hand, or what was left of them. After I suggested scanning to .pdf and using the find feature, he went off on a rant about how much blood he has lost in the past few days, and the owner a cheap ass and blah blah blah.

But then it got me to thinking about paper cuts and technicians.....

Is it ,as technicians, we have become experts at handling paper?

Could it be that the constant roll of our screwdrivers over our fingers have hardened our skin?

    Thoughts or opinions....?

its probably just a natural pecking order thing .... Copiertech > IT > Paper > User > Machine > Toner.
this shows that paper dominates user

My last paper cut was from a Tally-Ho (rolling paper) on my tongue.

Cuts from burred edges of machine chassis are a different story.

The GP215 (GP210) should have been reclassed as an industrial hazzard zone. The thing was leathal for razor sharp edges that you wouldn't know anything about till you wondered why the machine was turning red!!!

You should switch brands my friend. Those must be too thick. Probably taste a lot of paper.

I likewise don't remember the last time I had a paper cut now. Must be a new found respect for the sheer lethality of micro-thin tree pulp.

On the topic of machines with razor sharp edges, working with Ricoh and Sharp I've never had a problem with machines cutting myself, and then we acquired a bunch of Canons from Ricoh National... I had no idea these things were so blood thirsty. I'm now sporting a nice big 3" scar going up my arm just below the elbow...

I think I've burned my fingers on enough fusers to toughen them up and making them impervious to paper cuts.

It's the alcohol, solvents, and other cleaning liquids that we use. It dries out the skin on our hands to the point where paper cuts only cut the dead skin and never make it through to where it would start bleeding.

Very few cuts now on the front of the hands/fingers, but the thin skin on the back is constantly getting cuts and bruises. (They don't call them Sharps for nothing)

Sometimes you don't notice the cut... until you start using IPA solvent or something similar and THEN you feel it.

Re: Are We Impervious To Paper Cuts?

I was only just giving my partner shit about her papercut last night. She came home and was like "Look at this"... Naturally, I just pissed myself laughing but now that you say that you can't remember your last papercut, well neither can I after thinking about it.

Yeah, the machine chassis on the other hand has given me a variety of cuts over the years with the worst one being a Pi6501 External Fiery where I tried to open it up and the centre wouldn't slide out, so I pushed the power supply socket with my thumb and tore the side of my thumb out when the centre let go. lol
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Might be we just don't notice them mixed in with all the other cuts and scrapes we get from the machine.

I think my worst came from a Mita 900D. Back then I'd just spit on my finger and wipe down the primary wire. I was a bit surprised when the 900D had a razor scorotron. Half way down the scorotron my fingertip cut to the bone, spurting blood all over the place.

That was the last day I did that. But few paper cuts. =^..^=

Speaking of paper cuts, does anyone still make field band-aids out of strips of those blue shop towels and electrical tape?

As much as it stings, I usually reach for the alcohol and the black tape. Any Orange-Sol or Grease will infect it for weeks. =^..^=
