Do You Think Justmanuals.com would benefit with a Mobile App?

I've spoken to my programmer today to see about writing a mobile app for justmanuals.com. My question is do you folks as techs think a mobile app would be a benefit for you to use when in the field? And on what platform?

    Thank you,

    Paul

Chit! a Typo in the title and I can't edit it. My apologies

    hi paul.
idont know if it would be of much use to old farts like me ,because of the size of down loads then opening up the manual to view it.i prefer to use my laptop.mind you i am only just getting used to dvd manuals (i prefer the books).

Ditto that. The screen on the laptop is nearly too small as it is. I can't imagine trying to read a PDF manual on a smartphone. And without Keyword searching it would be a step back to paper manuals.

Don't do it for me. It's working fine like this. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

We have our manuals in the "cloud", and the techs hate it. Paging through several hundreds of pages is giving the techs sore thumbs and fingers. Hence, I usually get the calls for help here in the shop.

I have tried putting manuals on my google drive and it takes to long to long to bring them up out in the field. I prefer to keep my manuals on a thumb drive so I can us them on what ever I have with me.

I can't imagine looking at a manual on a phone, looking at manual on a laptop is hard enough. Don't waste the money on it!

Thank you all for your input. It's greatly appreciated. I'll tell my programmer to nix that idea.

Re: Do You Think Justmanuals.com would Benit with a Mobile App?

I have installed a sim card in my android with the PC PDF files.
Smartphone downloads tend to not enlarge or save right.

I only use it for quick reference for failure codes and adjustments I can't remember off the top of my head.
I have a laptop and a 32 GB thumb drive for the full information I can read without glasses.
I can always borrow a computer with a USB port.
I say save the cost. I can always download the manual from your website and save it any where I need it.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

What about selling laptops or tablets pre-loaded with all the manuals and service utilities for a certain manufacturer? I'm sure that would be beneficial to someone who wants to start on their own.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                        Hit it.

                            Hello,
On a tablet the App would be great. Easier to operate than the PC.
I am using a 10 inch netbook right now. At times it seems small.
The only thing here, it is where you have to run some network or print controller troubleshooting and you need the laptop (for the NIC card). I would not carry a tablet and a laptop. And the tools and the vacuum and the spares.

That might be a good idea but I don't want to get into the hardware business, too big of an investment.. I have a laptop that my bruddah gave me to sell for him and I'm not getting any hits on it. I've lowered the price on it from about $500 to $380 now as it is and I'm throwing in MS Office 2010 and 10 manuals. But maybe if I put all the Bizhub or Ricoh, HP or Lexmark manuals on it I could get rid of it. It's a brand new Toshiba laptop and it hasn't been registered with Toshiba yet. I would take it myself abut we already have a Dell laptop less than 2 years old. This one has a numeric keypad on it too which my Dell doesn't have.
I think the idea of the flash drives is the way to go for the new manuals4you.com. They will be relatively expensive, but having the full set of say Ricoh or HP and Lexmark manuals on a single piece of hardware could be indespenseble (sp?) an independent to take to a job. I would send 2 drives to a customer, one for on the go and another one for a backup to be kept in a safe place in case some nitwit tech accidentally deleted a file or lost the drive itself. All I have to do is get off my lazy ass and get it done. That will be my 2nd New years resolution. I quit smoking ciggies last night. I took my pack and ran it under water and trashed it. I'm now smoking my electronic ciggie exclusively. So far so good, It's been 12 hours. I haven't smoked any pot since August but I'm hoping to get a little this month. I'll see how business goes. I seem to be ranting here. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Thank you and Happy and HEALTHY New year to all.
