    I hate copiers!

Yet I still fix these stupid things. I don't care if it's making a noise. 5 paper james within a month does not make a machine "down". And you will never ever get an exact match of the color that is on your screen onto paper! Call your stupid sales rep. Read the specs. And take your work related issues out on the guy who replaces the water jug. That's all I've got. Monday I'll be greeting the next customer with a smiling face.

It takes a lot to stifle yourself while on the job. That's why these forums exist.

Dead on! I had a customer call and say their machines jams too much. Very high volume customer on a printer: 40K per month. I went out, printed 200 sheets-no jams. checked jam counter - 5 jams total. To boot, they use hole punched paper in a
55 page per minute machine. But, hey , they pay me.

Maybe it's time to do some Colour Theory training?

I don't actually hate copiers. They can be irritating to be sure, some of them can even be infuriating sometimes. Still, I think it is kind of interesting working on machines that combine mechanics, physics, chemistry, low and high voltage electronics and optics (although it would be nice if the users would realize that as well).

The way I look at it it's a better job than the one I did for 22 years.
I was a tradesman bookbinder in the print industry.
Sure I took a MASSIVE pay cut to come to copiers but it's way more rewarding(for me anyways) than standing in one spot on a concrete floor cutting down reams of paper day in and day out for 22 frickin years.
I finally had an outlet for my inner geek

Aw , they are not too bad !
Especially now that I only work on printers....HA HA HA ...., not in the field any more and this old man likes that situation.
I get to sit at a work bench , perched on a GOOD chair , not on my knees on the floor , no irate end-user griping at me ...
            YEP !!! IT'S ALL GOOD !!!!!!

I have to agree with you there. Working on copiers/printers/whatever is way better when there are no customers to deal with....

I have to disagree, sure, there are plenty of problematic customers out there, but it's the interfacing with customers that makes this job worthwhile for me, it's the main part that gives me job satisfaction

Same for me. Sure, there are some customers that give you headaches, but most of them are just nice people. And... there are also really nice female customers... And there are always "problem machines", failures that take 4-5 visits to solve. I'm doing this kind of work for 20+ years and it's never boring. My boss gives me plenty of freedom to do the job, I get training on every new machine. I'm not complaining.

Yeah, I can't relate to that on any level. If I want to socialize, I'll go play frisbee golf with my nephews. Definitely not a people person, otherwise I would have went into Sales...

You give good service = customer expects more = you give better service = they complain more = they leave to another company = they want you back.

no idea why i am using = a little drunk. I did have a point to make before making this post but it is lost to me now.

                      still no idea.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

OH, I still have the inter-action : mostly to techs out in the field calling in for support, but , end-users sometimes.
Fortunately, I get to talk to techs all over the country , not limited to just folks in our immediate area.

                        Life is still good !!!!

too much work I just tell them you need to calibrate your monitor then after that you will need to get a fiery rip with a spectrophotometer and a graphic artist who knows how to use them thats roughly $100K investment. They become happy with the color outputs after that.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

I don't hate copiers just intensely dislike the small ones, had to replace a board on an Oki machine which involved stripping it down to the base plate, rebuilt it then watched the fuser melt before my eyes requiring it to be stripped down again! Then had a Canon iR1022if with a perplexing scan problem which I am now with the help of Teckat getting to grips with, somehow the customer has switched off the scan to email function but left everything else on.

Quick rant over - back to the screwdriver!
