    Do you wear a watch?

I've been in the business over 22 years. I use to wear a wrist watch all the time. This was important before cell phones. However, being a tech and reaching into machines all the time, I always scratched the glass and damaged the band. I stopped wearing a watch at work and now never wear one at all, ever. In fact, I do not own a watch at all. Just curious if this is true for other techs?

yup stopped wearing my watch also for the same reasons. kept scratching it up, and also i started taking it off before i worked on a machine and would set it down or in my tool case and forget about it till i got a few miles down the road.

i think society in general is moving away from watches.

smart phones will kill watch business, calculator business, camera business, gps business, need for translators, dictionaries, radios......

god help us, here come the 3d printers.

I gave it up about 30 years ago for a weirder reason. I never found a band that didn't make my wrist sweat.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

With so much stuff in my phone, it seems rather silly to wear such a large thing just to tell time. Clocks are everywhere.

After replacing batteries for many years, I gave up wearing a watch (I would remove it when servicing machines), and now it feels like I'm going "commando". And for safety reasons, I haven't worn a wedding ring since my wife married me - an electronic tech.

No, given up as well for all the above reasons. Doesn't explain why I keep buying fake rolexes every time I pass through Asia though. .........our son asked for a watch for Christmas, so we let him!...............

Yes, I have a serious disorder. I own about at least 18 wristwatches and wear every day a different one of them.

Do you guys think this can be treated with professional help?

Yes. I always wear one. checking the time on my cell is about the 4th choice. Whenever people tell me they check time on their phone , I think it is a great idea, and try to remember to do it , but I soon forget.
Like Hansoon, I collect watches, but I almost always wear my "trusty" stainless Omega Constellation to work. It's sapphire chrystal can't get scratched
I have a few cheapies that I switch to once in a while.
I have taken it off a few times, but it goes straight into my pocket

I wear a watch every day. It is so much easier to check the time on it than on my phone. Besides, it looks good too. lol
I don't feel right if it isn't on my wrist. I got it for five years of service at a previous job

There was an SSG I dealt with over in Iraq that was always trying to sell me some nice watch. He had tons of nice watches. I passed up on all of them tho as I don't wear any watches, rings, or other jewelry. Even when I am in uniform and supposed to be wearing my dog tags I don't. I loop them thru a belt loop and put them in my back pocket. I've shocked myself enough times that I don't need any extra help.

Re: Do you wear a watch?

Had a large gap between the ages of 10 and early last year where I didn't own a watch, but always wanted one as long as it was decent. Happened to find a great little number in the Sears catalog and the wife got it for me as a birthday present. Didn't even have the thing half a year before I clipped it on the wall bringing a copier in our single door entrance and the band pin broke out of the frame.

The problem was, the watch itself and the band were both covered by warranty, the way the pin broke out of the frame was technically neither of them, and the watch couldn't even be repaired with super glue just due to the location of the break and the fact the small piece that broke off the watch disappeared into the nether-carpet.

Did I really want to buy another watch? Not overly... I've been checking time on my phone since I've had one anyways. Though it was nice to have a watch that would update itself as I crossed borders and timezones...

Always wear a watch. I have an ESD watch that I got from xerox 15 + years ago. I have never changed the battery and it only recently got to the point where the light did not work. Funny thing is that the plastic band breaks about every 3 yeras and I go and buy a new one for it. The band is usually more than buying another watch. What can i say; I'm a creature of habit.
