    Training, it works.

i had a call to deliver a set of color toners, for a Konica c280 to the Navy office in the building that used to have my most used black and white machines. This machine is through a different contract and i still have the service. When I arrived, Ron was on the phone, actually 2 at the same time. I looked at the toner levels on the screen and they were almost full, so i laid the toner down and sat and waited. When he got off the phone, he ask me how to see if he was low on toner. He is copier illiterate, but I've known him for 15 years. I showed him the screen and assured him he was OK. That is when he commented that he thought it needed toner because of the crappy colors on his copies. He showed me two originals, one a green certificate, and a magenta certificate. he then showed me the copies he made and they look like crap. Each one worse than the other. The machine is clean, only 50,000, all supplies are good. I make a copy of his original, it is crap. I start trying different settings, and when i get the green close, I start seeing a word in the background.

I am not sure about this. Internal test prints are fine. Optics are clean. Then just for good measure, i grabbed a color chart off his desk to copy and it looks great. Another look at his original, and i notice something I hadn't noticed before. A bar code. These were concealed carry permits. I wasn't looking at the content, just the colors. The anti counterfeiting stuff was kicking in. Making the copies, look like crappy copies.

I had just started taking Xerox prerequisites to go to class. One of them was about the anti counterfeiting measures in their machines. All of a sudden I remembered it. That training stuff actually works.

Cool! Most of the machines I've worked on would just code out, then require the manufacturer to reset.

I had a call recently, that scan to email wasn't working. After testing and testing, I finally printed off a log. The codes indicated that partway through the set of 30 originals the machine identified a prohibited original, then cancelled the scan. The enduser ran the same stack 10 times with the same affect. Everything else before and after scanned just fine.

Thank goodness for the logs. In the end the enduser still couldn't understand the concept of prohibited originals. "You mean there are some things that I just cant copy or scan? What kind of machine is this?" Just like every other. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

very similar thing happened to me .it was in an art class in a senior school .the call was everytime they wanted to print a particular page the machine went into an error code (i cant remember what it was)
they showed me what they were copying ,it was a magazine womans day or something along those lines they wanted to copy the front page.i tried everything and no go .as a last resort (dont know why i did it )i covered up the bar code.lo and behold and i still dont know why, it started printing .took off the cover i put on the bar code and lo and behold the error came back.
