I don't know how much this will help, but someone dear to me went through a hip and knee replacement a few years ago. Based on that, it appears that the physical therapy portion of Mrs. Blackcat's recovery could be a bit trying. But keep the faith, it should be a lot better when she is done with that.

My mother had her knee replaced in November, after 30+ years of knee problems stemming from being hit by a car as a child. She has had some complications, in her immune system potentially rejecting the knee leading to a secondary infection. The solution is to suppress the immune system until it tolerates the change, else it's to attempt another surgery and second replacement. I'm glad we're in Canada, that wouldn't be cheap in the US!

All in all, her recovery has been well other than the aforementioned problem, best wishes to your missus in her recovery!

Thanks everybody. So far, the blood thinners are going to be a major complication. Mrs. blackcat went in for an emergency tooth removal, but they could not do the removal because of the Coumadin. They'll try again Friday when her blood is thicker. Lot's of green tea over the next few days, and no Coumadin.

Now I can understand the strange looks when the nurses were questioning me in the hospital:
              Nurse: What prescriptions?
              Me: None.
              Nurse: Any concurrent health conditions?
              Me: I have a broken ankle ...
              Nurse: Yes, but anything else?
Me: No ... isn't that enough?
Nurse: Are you allergic to anything?
Me: I'm having a really bad pain reaction to broken bones.
              Nurse: Yes, but anything else?
              Me: No.

My wife is on blood thinners and has to watch her intake of vitamin K. According to her doctor, vitamin K can be used to counter most blood thinners. She has to stop taking them four days before any dental procedure.

The green tea did the trick. 3.7 if you know the numbers. Yeah, I know green leafies thicken the blood, but they're kind of hard to get through a straw. The tooth comes out tomorrow, then the knee Monday.

You couldn't talk them into doing a two-for-one deal? you could have saved on the anesthetist cost.

Also may be cheaper to have the dentist put the knee in.

That pic is not mine, but that seen is familiar in my house. They love bacon, and Dexter, the one we found under a car hood last fall will eat most anything. He can be so annoying when you are trying to eat, that at times my wife or daughter will put him in the bathroom. I just finished feeding the feral ones in the front yard. Two are ones we raised from kitten, who decided they wanted outside permanently. One went wild and would not come near humans. The other prefers outdoors but still loves human contact. We bring him in during bad weather. The third is a wild cat that we have been feeding since he was a kitten. When I go out in the morning to feed them, the two wild cats become the most loving things you have seen. They are rubbing me, letting me scratch them, and knocking my hand at the exact moment I am putting food in a bowl, so I dump a portion on the ground. As soon as they eat, I get hissed at again. I feel so used.

I have a couple of cats that go crazy at the smell of pork cooking. We won't let them have any. Pork fat is not good for cats. One did steal a slice of bacon right off my plate when it was a kitten. It still tries.
