What do you mean getting on a bit? To us old guys you are still a sweet young thing. I am feeling the cold a more this year primarily because I have lost about 50 pounds over the last 8 months. Less insulation under the skin.

Well done on the weight loss. I had a health check yesterday (now that I'm a lady of a certain age LOL), good scores all round, but when my weight was checked I found I had lost 22kg (nearly 50lb) since I was last weighed by my doctor, it was brilliant watching her change 82kg to 60kg on the screen, I still maintain that the divorce diet is the best diet on the market , I had also lost 2cm off my height though ...I'm turning into my mother

I am down 60 from my all time high, and my 74 year old mother has lost 70 in the past year. Now that she feels better, she started cooking again, and sending it home with me. When I say cooking, I am talking about loafs of bread made from scratch, pies and other homemade goodies. Makes it really hard to keep the weight off.

Feel better from loosing weight than from not smoking.

As far as the subject of this thread, not very likely to be trapped in snow where I live. More likely to break down in the middle of nowhere. Put together a nice survival box from stuff I got from the flea market. Started with a pelican case size of small suitcase, got a Gerber suv kit, has shovel, multi pliers, axe, flashlight and something else, added some Gerber machete's glow sticks, rope, a 22 cal six, gun maintenance kit, compass and field glasses and some other stuff. Made a nice first aid box out of a slightly smaller pelican. MRE's are popular to carry as emergency food. Can be bought at flea market for $3 a piece or $25 a case.

Extra gloves, boots, scarf, wool arctic hood, shovel, water, rifle, first aid kit, lighter, and a couple of days worth of food items. If I get stuck in a situation where I run out of food and water, I probably should have just stayed at home to begin with.

Why do you feel the need to carry a rifle? surely your customers arn't that bad?

Back on the original thought of this thread. Last night and this morning we had our first good rain in over a year. Not enough to end the drought, but enough that agriculture around here can shut the deep well pumps off for a couple of days.

Oh, the divorce diet was fun, and that was 3 years ago, he only ever seemed to want to eat pizza and chips, I like eating pasta, fish and fresh veg (and far too much chocolate, but we won't mention that)
The times I've been feeling low recently are nothing to do with my last (and final) divorce, they have been due to another bloody man!!!

Your kit sounds like ordinary requirements to leave the house here. Winter survival kit for us includes -40C rated sleeping bags, candle-in-a-can for warmth, several layers of blankets etc., and similar concept ideas to get a fire going and keep it going for as long as possible.

Winter in this area is a cold, slow death if you're caught with your pants down, figuratively speaking. -40C is the same as -40F for those who may not already know; and it's not unheard of for temperatures here to hit -50C (we had a bone chilling -56C or -68.8F with wind chill last year). What might be considered a winter survival kit in some parts of the world as a bit of thicker clothing is just part of life here, so winter survival is the same kind of gear they take to climb Mt. Everest and the rest of the Himalayas.

Yet I still run around in my plain old sneakers in knee deep snow, in a sweater and long underwear. Pants are optional.

I could go on, but I think I've referenced how bloody cold it is here enough on these forums. I might very well have a page to myself if one were to search for "cold" on here.
