    New word of the day: Anisocoria

    Anisocoria is unequal pupil size.

    Amber, our orange tiger cat had her teeth cleaned today. An interesting side effect of the topical anesthesia is that her left pupil is just a slit, and the right is at least 10mm. Google tells me that it's a not so uncommon effect of oral surgery, especially when local anesthesia is used.

    I keep trying to get a picture, but she's camera shy just now. She's not quite at full speed yet. I think I looked a lot like that after my last oral surgery.

      Anisocoria .... You've taught me a new word BC.
      Anis-o-score-rear: sounds like Puss has some bad scatches on her rear end...
      I definitely wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with her eyes...

              LOL - a scratched ass - more likely make your eyes water or go cross-eyed - not sure about the pupil thing!!

                          For Amber she tipped her head to one side, and didn't move around a lot. I think it warped her depth perception. After a while she just closed the one eye who's pupil was dilated completely closed. By morning they looked completely normal.

                          There are apparently several pharmacological agents that have this effect ... and not just cats, humans too. Cats just have a more pronounced affect.

                          + ia: for abnormal condition

                          Where are the Greek members when you need them? =^..^=

                                  Growing up as a cheeky @ss kid I recieved an equal share of kicks up the "aniso". So I guess I can some how relate the word aniso to mean unequal or get even...
