When I am stupid on the job, the customer always helps...

So I leave the shop with some deliveries yesterday. I look them over and note that 2 seem to be on the way to base and will be quick drop offs. I stop at the first one, where I was last week cleaning out the waste toner bottle 2 on a lanier 525c. The girl answers the door...

Me...I have toner and staples for you.
her... Good, put them over there

I go to the machine, stop in my tracks and look, then realize the machine has no finisher. My brain freezes for a second

"So, this machine is out of staples?"
"Yes, we haven't used it in a while, it kept jamming up"

I stand and stare. For a moment my brain ponders the possibility that Ricoh has some new state of the art design in which this giant staple cartridge will insert into the corner of the machine and staple, then I came back from my temporary acid flashback.

I walk into her office and ask "SO, you have actually seen this machine staple papers together??"

"No, I haven't, but I heard it doesn't work properly"
    "That's because the machine doesn't have a finisher.It can't staple"

I had got the address mixed up and was supposed to be at another realtor office. The girl was going with it and trying to get me to make the imaginary stapler to work.

I love it! There's a girl that can think on her feet.

I certainly wouldn't have expected her to shine you on.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I always say that when you let your guard down, that's when you work too hard. A few weeks ago I had a call for a Bizhub 552 with an area that was printing light. It is in an industrial park with a dirt/gravel road. The dust is terrible and a lot of calls on this machine are dust related. I arrive and ask her to show me a sample. She hands me a form and it has a light area. I ask to see the original and she produces the original master, in color and holds it up for me to see. I go to the machine and run a meter. It looks fine. I run a list management report and it looks ok. So I start taking the glass off and clean the optics. They don't look dirty, but you never know. Put it back together and copies of my previous test look fine. Before I leave, I ask for her master to make a few more. But wait, these look like the samples she showed me. Why? Because looking a little closer, I can plainly see the defect on the master, which was a copy of the original master that had been used, and replace with a poor copy. Oh well, never hurts to do a good PM.

Whenever they get me like that, I assume it is always my fault. Been doing this too long.
