Mistakes you made when you were a ROOKIE (noob--whatever)

Remember all the stupid things you did when you were first starting out?

One of the things I did, over and over again, was to treat each customer as if they were more interested in saving money than having their machine work. I would do things like clean rollers instead of replacing them--only to have to come back a few days later (or a few hours later). It took me like SIX MONTHS to learn.

It also took me a while to figure out that cusomers want to see confidence... fake it till you make it.

yes I was trying to fix the copier.
and then I realised the problem was to educate the customer.
in the long run much more beneficial for both

Not unplugging the machine from the mains. Only do it once....
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

I must be really dumb, I've caused problems more than once that way

Put machine back together and had a problem with blank copies.

Troubleshoot it thinking main charge corona area that i worked on, but just forgot to put an original on the glass!

Greased scan rails, then had a black line on copies... did not know what the heck that was. Service manager went out and found my black grease cap in the 1st scanner mirror... . hence the nickname "grease cap", never heard the end of it.

wow, i gotta lighten up on the noobs.

another tech scraped a office girls' leg with his super long phillips screwdriver sticking out of his pocket as he was getting up from a squat position .

another tech thought his car was stolen in an office parking garage, but was actually parked on another floor.

When I was a rookie I made a very big mistake affecting my life dramatically:

              I became a copier tech.....

I once sprayed WD40 on a Canon NP80 (liquid machine) to try to eliminate a squeak in the drum drive area.

Unfortunately it was running at the time.

A nice green flame shot out with a loud BANG when it hit the primary corona.

Scared the crap out of the highly populated office it was in. (And me, of course...)

When I first started working on copiers, I stored my tool case in the trunk of the car while on the clock, and then I brought it in the house when I was done. That ended after the second time I discovered I forgot to load the tool case in the car when I arrived at my first call, which was fifty miles away in both cases. Ever since then the tool case stays on the front passenger's side floor 24/7 unless I am using it on a service call.

Yeah... it's like those dreams you have as a kid where you suddenly realize you forgot to put on pants before school.

while still being trained in the field, while rebuilding a fuser, i put the wrong screw in the wrong spot...when the copier was powered on, it blew a circuit breaker in the office. no damage done.. except to my pride.
