    Humidity?

    Hi there

Does anybody knowledge about room air condition to get the wrinkle curl out of printed paper?
Would an air conditioner be of any help?

Do i need to humidify the room? Its winter around here and the air is dry.

    Re: Humidity?

Usually you get the excessive curl due to too much humidity. i.e. A/C left off at night/over the weekend and the paper absorbed some of the moisture in the air.
I live in Houston, TX and humidity is a huge factor here.

I live in North Carolina. It's like a sauna here. Sounds like some crappy paper. An old army trick to remove moisture from paper is to take a metal cabinet, bore a hole in it, install a light bulb and now you have a paper incubator.

In a case like that, I would get a ream from a different source. Sometimes the paper gets contaminated where it is stored.

Your right, the paper used to be stored on the floor. I changed that and got fresh stock. Its better already but not good enough for glue binding. The edges of the book is wrinkled, and the book is combined from jobs printed from different machines. I asked them to compile the entire book into one PDF so at least the waves runs in the same grain due to the book being printed on one machine.

Already did more than 5M prints on three B601's in a year. The end customer got the same quality book from that time and know they are moaning about it so.

I can get a second hand B1050. Can anybody comment on that machine's ability to decurl paper?

Wrinkles are usually caused by the fuser in my experience. Have you checked it for a worn out pressure roller?

I do change them when worn out, all of the machines are doing the same thing even the C360 and the C452's.

On the 600/601, a slight toner deposit on the entrance plate to fuser will also cause the paper to wrinkle.

I don't know about the bizhub 1050, but the bizhub 1052 has de-curl setting separately for each tray, and it works well. Combined with lower fuser temperature, I'm have very little curl problems anymore. =^..^=

DRIERITE DESICCANT BAGSThese non-woven crepe bags containing DRIERITE are used to completely dry the air within a package or container during shipment or storage. The disposable packets are dust tight and will protect enclosures for many months when used within an adequate moisture barrier. These desiccant bags are approved by the FDA and DRIERITE is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
Every box of DRIERITE Desiccant Bags comes with a 30% Relative Humidity card that changes from blue to pink when the bags are no longer active.
Typical uses of DRIERITE desiccant bags include the packaging and protection of:

DRIERITE desiccant bags are filled with DRIERITE (anhydrous calcium sulfate). The bag material is a coated crepe paper that is held together by heat seals.

SUGGESTED USAGE OF DRIERITE DESICCANT BAGS
                          Volume of moisture tight container
Bag Size Cu. ft. Cu. in.

                          6 grams 0.25 456
                          1 ounce 1.25 2160

Try placing one of these in the paper drawer, or taping it to the rear of the drawer.

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

                            Re: Humidity?

I know I'm late, but I haven't seen this yet so I have to ask:
Are the ream wrappers that the paper is packaged in OK?
On decent types of paper, the ream wrapper acts like a moisture barrier, and helps keep the moisture content constant.
If the ream wrapper is damaged or opened prematurely, moisture problems are likely to occur.

To verify that your problem is humid paper, run 30-40 blank sheet's thru and put them back in the cassette, in some cases, it's like night and day. You show your customers and they cant believe what a couple of humid days do to paper, particularly to paper.
