Newbie to the forum and the business seeking a few pointers plz :-)

    Hi everyone,

I am just starting out as an independent service technician (office equipment like printers, scanners etc) but will concentrate on urgent / short notice requests. There seem to be a market for this where I am. I have not been in this business before, so all very new to me - but exciting :-)

Doing my training right now, but so much to learn and would highly appreciate any pointers of what are the most common faults / jobs / works you should expect at the average office? I expect most of the work will be on larger office business printers (HP and Lexmark).

I will only be doing servicing and repair (no selling). Planning on "just" doing "light" / urgent printer and other office equipment repair. I will advertise a really short response time, so if their usual person can't make it, I can step in.

So looking to see what to concentrate on first in my education. Is it cleaning the print head or what are the most common problems in offices with their equipment?

Thx in advance for helping a newbie :-)

I've been doing this for 15 years and I still come across (although pretty rare) people that thing I've just start or I'm a newbie (just because I haven't been to there office before or I'm not there "regular guy") So one of the first thing's you are going to have to do is start "selling yourself" as you know what you are doing. That can be tough. I would suggest to just appear confident and that should help. Good luck!
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Appearance can mean a lot. My beard started to turn gray 10 years ago. It means nothing of course (except maybe excessive stress), but I buys me some credibility. If you've got a baby face it can be a liability. Just saying ... =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
