    Re: What about?

No that's silly. I recently added a water line to my new fridge. Had no idea what a "saddle valve" was until Youtube. Now, I wouldn't run a new gas line or anything.

And to your post about "information in profile" what's the point of that? To know my name, hobbies and hometown? I like a little anonymity in the internet, what's left of it. Besides this is a forum where occasional locker room talk (or stupid question, lol) could look unflattering to a new employer.

I have seen profiles that do not even specify where they are, how old they are or how long they have been in the industry. If they cannot provide at least that much information, I am not about to provide them off line help.

Yes kind of, that is one way of looking at it I guess.
I'm thinking more along the lines of a engineers sanctuary.

The public side is still to be the primary forums for help and discussion, I don't propose that focus changes.
As for an engineer that works on different brands no problem, as long as he or she has official qualifications on those brands.
It may even be possible to add an member to multi-able membership groups.

Self regulating... again that's one way you could describe it.

Guys, I'm newbie on this forum, had a lot of help trough here, I know how to help this guy, but I'm afraid if I do

In the past, I have gotten PM requests for firmware and manuals. Usually they are from someone I do not know. Many include that they are willing to pay for the information. If I am going to provide information, it will be based on what I posted earlier and will be free of charge.
          Thanks for the offer.

I am a constant user of the private message system.

But I do think it's sad that knowledgeable people cannot share more sensitive information in a more secure but open format that would ultimately benefit more than one trained engineer.

That basically makes the bases of my proposal.

Huh, weirdest thing that - apparently I'm part of the problem even though I mostly try to help new people find their way around here. They're the future of CTN after all. Oh well.
