Re: How Long Servicing Office Equipment

started in 1976 for a family owned dealership that sold Savin, MITA and lanier dictation stuff. worked on e-stats (dirty 230) Savin liquid machines, from the 750 on up. Mita dc 12 then went to 4 other Savin dealerships spent 6 years with Lanier when it was 3M, harris 3m, harris lanier and lanier worldwide now owned by Ricoh. Finaly realized I don't play well with others so went independent can sell and service anything out there. The boss is a jerk but I watch him shave.

Re: How Long Servicing Office Equipment

Started in 1983, all my friends told me I was stupid as we are heading for the paperless office!
First machines I fixed were Apeco electrostatic machines (anybody remember them), went on to do canon, mita, Minolta, Panasonic (direct, best job), sharp, hp and now Kyocera.
Nearly 61 and not sure how much longer I can keep going. This is not the same job I started in 1983, back then customers thought copying A3 was fantastic, now look what they do.
Im not complaining though, it's paid the bills for 30+ years[emoji986]

Had a crash course in copier repair about five months ago. Been pluggin away at it since. Feel free to poke fun at that, I would. I'm a computer hardware person so it wasn't much of a stretch.

Re: How Long Servicing Office Equipment

I started with Xerox in September of 1968. So I'm starting my 50th year this month. I owned a Panasonic dealership for 12 years, then sold it and retired...for about 3 months. I started helping another dealership part time in 1995. It didn't take long before I was full time again. That was 21 years ago. I have no more plans to retire. I love the job, and I love the money and benefits. By the way, our dealership is hiring for the Bakersfield and Fresno California area. Interested?

33 Years this January. Paid a fortune for computer repair school. Down to board level. "Basic"was the operating software.
Was 19 and was offered a job with IBM in Virginia. But didn't wanna leave my Fiance..... so I took a job at Canon to service copiers, which was considered the lowest
job you can get, according to everyone in Computer repair industry. But a few years later their jobs became obsolete. So I'm pretty sure I made the right move. No matter how much we say we hate this or that about being a copier repair tech, its a pretty damn good job/career. I started my own company in 1992 and still get out on road every day. Some of my customers ive had for 26 plus years and only want me to service their equipment. Which I'm fine with.

I replied to this thread last year and said that I was starting my 50th year. Well, this is now my 51st year, and still going strong.
