    Stone Paper (The end of wood pulp paper.)

    Anybody got any good reports/feedback on waterproof recyclable stone paper ?
    Stone paper is made from mostly calcium carbonate(chalk) mixed with a polymer binder(polyethylene) compound.
    Its 50 precent cheaper to manufacture; apparently does not absorb moisture, it has additional structural strength that resists tearing.
    Stone paper is non toxic and far cheaper to mass produce than wood pulp paper, and with no chemicals.... It can be recycled.

    The big question. What is stone paper like when used long term in a photocopier or printer?

    Stone paper has a polish smooth writing surface which gives it a very nice silky surface when used for hand writing.
    I'm presently using a sample note pad made of stone paper.

    Stone paper is said to be waterproof. Can it be used as an underwater writing pad,say using lead pencil?

    ...ideas?

      Have you tried it through an MFP? I wonder if it has similar electrical properties...
      transfer, separation, buckle, fusing, ...
      If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          According to Wikipedia it is only suitable for inkjet and solid ink printers. It does not do well with high heat laser printers and copiers.

              Huh, normally stuff like this hits Slashdot, but I haven't seen anything even close to that yet.
              Just a guess, but calcium carbonate seems a bit more acid sensitive than what would make a good paper substitute. I would guess the dust from this might be more abrasive than ordinary paper dust also. I'm probably wrong though.
              On the other hand, if that stuff makes it big, that would be great for this area. Thanks to the shallow tropical ocean that was here millions of years ago, there's loads of high quality limestone (which is also calcium carbonate) around here.

                  I think the US $92 billion dollar a year paper industry might have lobbyists on payroll.

                  Besides you can always plant trees and recycle paper. Doesn't seem like a big environmental cause.

                      Dunno...? The jury is still out....

                      Calcium carbonate is the 4th most abundant element on earth. I'm not sure if the Amazon jungle can handle the mass deforestation for another 100 years of paper use.
                      I could be wrong on that one, I am limited to doco's on TV.

                      I still have sufficiently abundant soft toilet tissue for use on soft body extremities that require a marginal periodic expression of care and attention.
                      I haven't tried to apply stone paper to the above duty of care application.... ..... yet....

                          No BC,I have not tried it in a copier or printer. My first thought I assumed it was like non-destructible paper. NDP works in photocopiers, waterproof and does not tear.

                          I put the stone paper topic out there to see if anyone else has any feed back on it....

                          I'm in the dark on the full in's and out's with stone paper topic...

                                  I didn't read TFA but since this stuff is getting its structure from polyethylene it probably has a lower melting point than toner. So maybe don't use it in a laser printer.

                                  Also, the last thing we need is another disposable product made from hydrocarbons.
