    Office Supply Business

Is anyone in the "office supply" business competing with office depot/staples ? I work for a locally owned business in NC and possibly looking to buy it in 4 years when the owner retires. I 'm not sure what the future holds for this business with the internet and the fact that no matter how much people preach "buy local" they really don't care about anything but price !
    Any thoughts ?
    Thanks,
    Dave

You should know better than us. Have you talked numbers with your boss?

I used to work for one such office supply company, copiers on the side.

The first point: price only, regardless of quality ... I've seen it and it's true. As a result though, the margins are quite thin, and we were constantly negotiating pricing at both ends: supplier's pricing and customer pricing.

I don't know how much that helps you ... =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have not yet. I had just recently talked to him about leaving because there has been no raise in 5-6 years and doesn't seem like there is going to be. Our year end just ended and he said wait til he talks to our accountant and he will see if he can do anything and that's when he mentioned the possibility of taking it over when he retires. We have been in business about 40 years and I've been here 17 years, I'm now 51 and don't want to be 55-60 and have to look for another job.
