Getting out of the copier service business after 33.5 years at the same place.

Well, I just turned in my 2 weeks notice first thing this morning, with my last time working here at noon today since I have 2.5 weeks of vacation left available to use. 33.5 years, legacy Minolta and then Konica Minolta and over the last several years I've just gotten completely burned out at this job. Going to be starting the new job on May 9th and I'm excited about the possibilities of it. I'll be building large control panels used to control material handling equipment such as baggage handling systems, grain at elevators, and the assembly lines used in automotive manufacturing. And then possibly running a laser cutting machine which the company is installing in the next couple months.

I'll pop in here once in a while but I'll be a bit too busy most of the time.
Started in the copier service business in the fall of 1988 and worked at the same company for 33.5 years, becoming the senior tech in 2004 but left to pursue another career on 4/29/22.

Many years ago, I worked a job similar to your new job, I think. We were wiring and doing all the electronics on control panels, PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) panels to be exact. Our company built these huge packing machines for Pepsi, Gerber, and other companies that had automatic packaging lines. The product would be transported down the line via a conveyor belt, placed in the box via pneumatics and the box would get glued and it was all done thru automation. The machines had PT and many other sensors and monitoring systems.

They also had a lot of conduit that had to be bent. All wires were tagged and terminated by the electronics department. I hated bending conduit. It also involved working a rotating shift. I quit after about a year because I couldn't adjust to shift work.

Best of luck on the new job. Cheers.

I'm going to like this job. No shift work and Mon-Thur 6am -4:30pm unless OT is needed and that will be added on Fridays. Currently, they are getting 45 hour weeks. It will be nice having a bit longer weekend, every weekend.

          Thanks!

Come back & see us. I doubt that you'll get amnesia ... you've still got a lot of good advice left in you. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I'll be back occasionally, just not nearly as frequently since there basically won't be any down time at the new job. The plus side of that is the day will fly by.

Good Luck in you new endeavors! 33.5 years, 37 for me, I couldn't go work for anybody, not at this point in my life, career. being self-employed for over 34 years, just couldn't.

Good luck in your new job. You will miss copiers, maybe not right away, but, you will! God Bless and happy tomorrows!

I'm not sure I'll miss them after this many years and basically just getting completely burned out on them for the last several years.

                          It means one week that I was working 6 a.m. - 3 p.m.

                          The next I was working 3-11 p.m.

                          And the following week I was working graveyard shift - 11 p.m. - 7 a.m.

Exactly what I won't have to deal with and I would never take a job that requires shift changes like that.

I was in school at the time taking Industrial Electronics and part of the class was learning to program and set up a PLC panel. I was about 6-months away from graduating and a guy from the company came to the school and recruited me. Starting pay was 45k per year and that was a lot of money in 1987.

I figured that I would get used to the shift work but I am a morning person and was never able to adjust my sleep. I learned my lesson...the hard way.
