    Ricoh Toshiba Merger

    Good God.

Ricoh and Toshiba to combine office printer, copier production -
    Nikkei Asia
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

    Re: Ricoh Toshiba Merger

... it is not a merger. It is a preliminary agreement to share production and design facilities to create high quality, lower cost product.

The transaction will not commence before April- June 01 2024.

Toshiba Tec and Ricoh will retain their seperate sales organizations.

There is a definite geopolitical uneasiness about manufacturing copiers in China and this is a move to spread that risk across the world.

For example, China is now demanding that all copiers sold in China must be both designed and manufactured in China. There is no way that either Toshiba Tec or Ricoh is going to share their Intellectual Property with China.

Thanks for the additional details. Can we assume that the next line of copiers will be re-badges of the same boxes, be they Toshiba builds or Ricoh builds? Is it possible that Toshiba/Ricoh will start a new business entity just to sell solely in China?

Perhaps Toshiba will design for the low end, Ricoh for the high end, like the Konica Minolta designs (Minolta low end, Konica production)?

There's definitely a political aspect to this merger. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

... very little change to anything until sometime in 2026 when the first of new products from this Joint Venture will arrive.

Again, this is not in anyway a merger of the two companies, with Ricoh taking over Toshiba. Toshiba Tec will remain an independent corporation within the Toshiba Corporation umbrella.

It is best to think of this as a pooling of resources between two independent companies with an acknowledgement that MFP placements are declining globally.

          Re: Ricoh Toshiba Merger

We had the meeting this morning. Toshiba wants access to Ricoh production and Ricoh wants access to Toshiba thermal and label printers. I have been around long enough to remember "Panashibas" so I got the impression it was more along the lines of that partnership.
They claimed it will cut 17% off of their production costs. Not making these boxes in China opens up current customer who cannot or will not buy boxes made in China, so that's a good thing in my opinion.
And yes, they stressed several times that "its not a merger".
I'm just glad they didn't partner with Lexmark.

Will the new 2026 products be called a Toshicoh or a Ricohiba?

Since it's 85% Ricoh ownership, I'm going with "Ricoh". =^..^=

... I suspect it will be the same hardware box with different plastic covers, User Interface, toner #s. accessories, etc.

I am hoping they will introduce speed licenses because that will greatly simplfy production while reducing costs, warehousing, logistics and inventory.

I suspect many more Ricoh dealers are now starting to thinking about taking on the Toshiba copiers line. Plus, Ricoh wants to get into the label printer business in a bigger way and Toshiba has a great label printer line.
