      Update. The machine runs constantly when powered on, no control panel buttons have any affect.

              The control panel PCB is notorious for failing on these. Often times causing the motor to run backwards as well.

              If it runs constantly you might also have a triac problem.

              I would start with the Triac (You can find a match at an electronic supplier) and if you still have issues replace the PCB and membrane.
