scan to email on a different domain (relaying)

    hi all,

just wondering if anyone knows what the server settings are to allow a copier to scan to an external email address is?

Ricoh MPC2003 can scan to internal email addresses OK, but not able to go to external addresses.

I've heard this referred to as 'relaying' - anyone know what the server settings are?

    cheers

scanning to internal email addresses only can be an email server restriction set up by the network admin in some networks. I would push this back to the network admin folks...................

For small businesses or home users with no IT I simply set them up a gmail account then simply program the copier with the following settings, this allows them to scan to any email address.

Every setting you need is in user tools, file transfer tab

Going from memory here's all the settings you need (assuming you have set the network settings, IP address, gateway address etc, DNS must be 8.8.8.8)

            SMTP address=smtp.gamil.com

            User authentication ON

Auth info= your gmail email address & password

Use SSL on (will set the port to 465)

            Administrator email can be anything

Page 2/3 must set "auto specify sender name to ON"

Re: scan to email on a different domain (relaying)

In most cases, an MFP on an internal network and using the customers exchange or SMTP mail server will be able to send mail internally using port 25 with no authentication. This is quite typical, but because there is no authentication the mail server will usually reject anything trying to go outside the domain. There are 2 ways around this, have the IT folks create a new mail account with a password that does not expire, and use those credentials (along with any needed port settings), or create a relay on the hub transport section to allow any mail to pass from the copiers IP address (this can be a big security hole and may be a bad idea). You may need to use the newly created email account as the copiers admin and from address. Ed
