Scan to email problems, KM bizhub 420/500

I'm having trouble authenticating with an outside exchange server. I have tried the same settings with a muratec 2850 and a Panasonic 8060 with no issues. There is no SSL encryption, just an smtp server (exchange 2007) and the smtp port has been changed to 587. I have also tried the same settings in more than one konica minolta with the latest firmware and I am still getting a server connect error. I have seen forward TX error too at the customer's location, but that is trying multiple different settings.

I am thinking the level of authentication that exchange is requiring is more than the konica minolta can handle? any input?

Set-up an oulook express profile on your computer with the same settings as the copier and email authentication. then you can check if those settings are correct.

I've not had luck except with servers on the local network with the Bizhub. You might try setting up SMTP relay through an XP Pro machine to the exchange server? It'd have to be a machine that would be running anytime the Bizhub tried to e-mail.

Are you using the name or the ip address of the smtp server?
If the name then make sure that the dns info is correct.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Exchange 2007 does use SSL therefore the port number change.

in addition to the other responses, are the username/password correct?

to an outside email server, you have to authenticate or the email will be rejected as spam.
we require internal email servers to guarantee success.
But I have been connecting KM machines to outside ISPs when the people have broadband internet. I just did a gmail account the other day.

First make sure you have your DNS settings correct (usually an external DNS server) so that you can ping the smtp.gmail.com address from the copier.

              gmail settings.jpg

I created a gmail account and password for the copier to use. Used Port 465 and used SMTP over SSL.
