    Account track and Linux?

Anybody get account track to work with cups/linux?
I can get it printing w/o account track but not with it turned on. I see the account track tab in printer admin (localhost:631) and enter pw but it fails.

Since you're calling it Account Track, is it safe to assume that you're working on a bizhub? Maybe it might help to know what model? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Re: Account track and Linux?

I went back and reread the install PDF packaged with the PPD. I'm almost sure I made some mistake installing the PPD files. They use the CL to install then use CUPS to add printer, I added it like you would a mac. So after that fail I think the filters for account track are not there or in the wrong place?
My customer is not beating me up on this, its a real estate firm that has a LOT of independent realtors using the printers with personal computers therefore they use account track to bill them for prints. I also have a limited time to config the computers and they understand difficulty's of some OS. They only call me when they can't do it on there own. There is one B/W only machine that they don't use account track and the problem computers/owners can use that one for free.
Next time I'm on site and the Linux user is there I'll attempt the terminal install, I feel like that will work. Thanks for everyone looking at my issues!

Is "Account Track" the name of the Company/Software?

Surely they have a support forum or hotline that you can call to resolve this issue?!

If the Realtor is paying a subscription fee for this software, which most times they do, then you need to direct your query at the developers of the software!

What's it saying in the printer logs? I can only commit about PC's but if the driver is not 100% correct it will print and do everything else but account tract won't work. I believe it's down to the signing of the encryption used to pass passcode. Printer will flash to show receding data but not print, print logs say will show the error type.

Are the Windows PCs tracking OK, and are they printing with PostScript?

If so, try installing the Windows PPD on the Ubuntu machine.

It may sound crazy, but PPDs aren't platform specific.

I've done this with Macs when the driver wasn't yet available, or didn't have the right options in the Mac package.

Any printer accounting package that I've ever seen needs to be able to parse out the number of pages, duplex, color, etc... If it can't do that, it never counts the jobs. I had that at a high school years ago, where they had some small HP printers that used a proprietary driver, that was neither PCL or PostScript, and their tracking software never recognized the jobs. Once they changed to the PCL driver, it all worked.

If its anything like the Ricoh machines then you need to edit that into the PPD.
Remember that was not to difficult.

I got all the info from Printer List | OpenPrinting - The Linux Foundation
