You can use SSL if you want, it's optional. As long as the account is kept active scan to email will work forever. There's nothing to install or setup on a customer's PC. I've tested Gawab.com Web-based Email email POP3 SMTP IMAP SMS on several of our showroom MFPs and it has worked everytime.

We have a customer that has a Falcon III and a Konica Minolta Color (C353 maybe) and they use Google for email. We were able to get the Konica to scan, but were unable to get the Kyocera to scan (did not try turning on SSL under "Advanced --> Secure Protocols --> SSL". I figured that was just for the web browser, makes sense that it would turn SSL on for the entire machine though. I'll have to try that next time.

Also just FYI I have run into alot on ISP's lately that are blocking port 25. Easiest way to test "telnet servername/IP 25" if it won't connect then port 25 is probably being blocked.
