If they have domain controller or active directory it's IT job. You can work together with IT to facilitate integration of MFPs but you're not supposed to do the job alone. I have a clients which ITs even integrate machines with SAFEQ with a little help. Once you and they both do setup several devices then they're much faster than you in next ones.

Plenty of threads on CTN on using local ftp. It's unfortunate you don't know the difference.
I may not be "IT trained" but I have been repairing computers, dedicated word processors, micro-processor based accounting systems and local area networks for over 4 decades. Every IT Professional I have worked with would black ball any vendor that tried to setup any FTP server of any type on any computer on any of their networks.

I don't know why bsm2 feels the need to prove he's better at IT than slim. I know this about slim. He's well thought out. He doesn't post anything from the cuff. If he tells you something...you can take that shit to the bank and cash it. I can't remember one time that he's led me in the wrong direction and I've asked him a million questions.

In Widows Server 2019, you can set up Remote Desktop Services. What that means is the IT person can remotely log in on any PC as a Domain Admin, thus you're able to install print drivers and set up SMB. That makes a little more sense to me than the IT person doing all the work. Could be wrong.

This way you never get the password and he doesn't have to run around to every PC. Again, all speculation on my part.
When you have a domain based network where one of the functions of one of the servers is being a file server, just setup a directory tree on the server department/individual has its/his/her own folder there is no need to touch anything other than the server. As personnel changes occur, IT can add/remove personal scan folders at the same time that they add users to or delete users from Active Directory.

Funny how you always stick up for him when the information is incorrect. NOTHING I posted is incorrect.
If you want the wrong information then be my guest.

Since I've already helped You with scanning from filezilla server IE Ftp. on a KYOCERA machine in the past.

Your information is incorrect. Suggest you search CTN for hundreds of FTP posts. HAVE A GREAT DAY

Cool. I'll give that a try. I just installed the printer drivers on the domain server and everyone on the domain can print. You don't even need to install a print driver on every PC.

You may want to look at group policy you can deploy ie install printers or remove printers so when users login they will automatically have the new printer and it can remove the old printers.

That's cool, too. Windows Server is fantastic. So many new toys to play with.

I am surprised since its open source it seems the website "sourceforge" may have been responsible for the additional malware. This is not a first for sourceforge.

As for filezilla its available in my linux software repository so I would use it if I had a reason to do so.

I really don't have a dog in the race on FileZilla. I would imagine that every protocol has a vulnerability. We've already discussed the security risk with telnet and that's built in to Windows. It all comes down to what security risk the IT department is willing to live with.

Re: Need some advice on learning networking

One benefit of learning something new like Windows Server 2019 is all the things that you pick up along the way. Some of you may already know this but I had no idea of how to find the shared path of a network printer or a network folder.

There may be other ways of finding it but here's an old school way....

                                1. Go to command prompt

                                2. Type: cd.. (this gets you to the root directory)

                                3. Type: net view (this will give a listing of all the PC's or servers on the network)

                                4. Type: net view \\(insert name of PC from list) and hit enter.

Once you do that it will show the network path for every shared folder and printer on your PC.

The reason I had to learn this is because Windows Server asked for it under Group Policy.

Give it a try if you haven't done it before.
