Vista and Windows 8 were pretty rough. Vista's real issue was the fact that it was an OS really made for 64-bit and modern hardware instead of the XP rated machines and components that were being released with it installed early on. The only reason for 7 having a better reputation is that the OEMs finally caught up with the kind of hardware needed. If you even look at the build number for 7, it's just Service Pack 3 for Vista.

8 was just a step towards touch, but too far away from the traditional layout for most people. The overall OS was pretty solid, slap a true Start menu on it and it's just an iteration of Windows 10.

        Yep Vista sucked

Xp still used by military MS has a special contract to provide patches.

I have seen XP used occasionally in UK hospitals, lets face it if you have a xray machine that works with XP upgrading a mission critical device for the sake of doesn't seem very clever, we have all seen what MS updates do to printers over the past few weeks.

Many times that is the result of running s custom software that has not yet been ported to a newer OS or uses hardware that is not compatible. I had a customer who was owned commercial nursery where they got seedlings ready for farmers to transplant into their fields. At that time XP was the latest and greatest but he still had one computer that was an original IBM True Blue PC. It ran a Symphony application that he had written to manage about 30 greenhouses. It monitored and maintained the environmental conditionals in each greenhouse. It also tracked daily data input on the how close the seedlings were to being ready to ship. XP would not run Symphony and many of the macros that he had written would not work in any other program.

Most of these devices are completely offline, or only connected to protected networks. I see this a lot with medical and scientific equipment where an old OS is used even on newer equipment because of the cost of certifying and validating the equipment with a newer operating system. It can cost anywhere from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to re-certify a new piece of equipment since the results have to be pretty much spot on.

A lot of these are also running an embedded variant of XP where Windows is in the background, but you only see the instrument's interface.

I still listen to her occasionally on the weekends. However, it annoys me every time she sponsors Epson, she makes it sound like it's the greatest printer in the world! Shaq too, the man made bazillions in BB, now he is a spokesperson for Epson, as well?? I bet he doesn't even own an Epson printer.

But you can put a piece of tape over the camera.

Most business class computers now come with a built-in camera shutter, and some models also allow you to disable the camera or microphone in the BIOS as well.
