    Migration HDD to SSD

A customer wants me to put a SSD instead of the old HDD in his computer(s). I advised him to set up W10 (eventually W11) completely new to have a fresh system and not to face possible problems with incompatibility and drivers.

Since he has much software on his system which would take a lot of time to reinstall on a new disk, he wants me to use migration software to clone the old HDD to the new SSD. In the past, I used EASEUS Clone Disk with limited success for this. It worked basically, but there were always some little quirks.

What migration software would you guys advise?

Use the software from the SSD manufacturer.

There's many cloning software tools that will do the job. I'll leave a video of one that I have used.

You mentioned eventually upgrading to Windows 11. Keep in mind that your PC will have to meet certain hardware requirements to install. Mainly the CPU and chipset. Considering your PC has a HDD, it's unlikely to meet those requirements. Another thing you need to know is that Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 in about 6-months at which time you will get no security updates.

There is a work around for installing Windows 11 on an older PC. Microsoft has an official work around on their site. I found an easier way.

I have found Mini Tools partition wizard to be extremely useful. It is the closest I have found to PowerQuest PartitionMagic combined with MagicMover since Symantic acquired PowerQuest in 2003 and discontinued PartitionMagic. New versions of MagicMover are apparently available for Win 10 and 11 but I haven't any experience with them. They might be able to do the job but I don't know whether they will move the boot and system files.

I use HDClone Free Edition, it is quite slow but works well.

I did 2 laptops at home with Samsung SSD, Samsung supplied a link to free cloning software. Worked perfectly on both units.

If all else fails read the Service Manual!

If that fails, meet me at the pub and we will discuss it.
