    USB Device not working properly

This is a strange problem. I have a Zero Delay Board which is plugged in to the PC via USB cable. This device is used to map a button to a key stroke for gaming. It works fine on another PC but not recogizing the button on my gaming PC.

    Any ideas?

What's the USB version of the port? USB 2? USB 3?

    What does Device Manager show?

I think it's USB 2 and I can't make head nor tails of device manager. What exactly should I be looking for?

When I plug in the device, I can pull it up and go to the test menu but it's not recogizing the button. Works fine on a different PC.

It should come up as a human interface device or as something connected to the USB controller.

Have you checked any website for the company that makes it for any software or updates?

I see no drivers for my device. The only thing out of the ordinary that I see in Device Manager is that it shows an Unknown Device. Don't know what that means or how to correct it.

It means your computer doesn't know what the device you connected to it is. You likely need to install some kind of driver that is installed on the other machine that it works on.

I tried every USB port with no success. I just installed the latest chip set for this PC and that clearned up the "unknown" devices. The game controller still isn't working though. Hopefully, I get it sooner or later. Frustrating.

Can you go to the manufacturer website to look for the driver, or look for an FAQ for the device?

This is a Dell Optiplex 9020. This PC will only be used for my pinball cabinet and they recommended doing a clean install of Windows before installing the pinball software...which I did. However, I did not install the chipset drivers from Dell's website. This was causing errors with the USB ports but it still didn't correct the problem after installing chipset drivers.

I tried everything to fix the problem with no luck. So, this morning I backed everything up and did a clean install of Windows and immediatly downloaded the chipset drivers from Dell. This corrected the problem. Thank God. I was at my wits end.

Install Dell Command Update from the Dell support site: it will pull all drivers and BIOS updates applicable to the machine.

Support for the 9020 ended not that long ago so whatever drivers it finds are likely going to be close to the last ones available.

Any time I rebuild a Dell machine the first thing I do is install DCU and pull all of the drivers.

Sounds like without the latest chipset drivers already installed before installing the pinball software parts of the pinball software failed to initialize properly.

It sounds to me like I didn't know what I was doing. All of this is fairly new to me.
